The Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments (AVCOG) is seeking a Transportation Planner/Technician.This position is located in Auburn and will provide a range of planning services for the Transportation Division related to short-range and long-range transportation planning in both Urban and Rural Transportation settings.
This position also supports the Androscoggin Transportation Resource Center (ATRC) who is responsible for transportation planning in the greater Lewiston-Auburn Area.
Responsibilities include assistance with the implementation of AVCOG's regional transportation planning program; providing technical assistance to member municipalities; developing transportation sections of municipal comprehensive plans; creating GIS maps; assist with data collection for transportation planning purposes, including traffic counts, accident data and traffic signal data.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in transportation, urban or regional planning; public administration; or related field;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to manage concurrent tasks efficiently;
- Ability to manage one's own time and work in a team environment;
- Ability to participate, and lead, meetings both virtual and inperson;
- Valid driver's license and a reliable motor vehicle.
Additional desirable skills/qualifications:
- Experience in transportation planning
- ESRI ArcGIS experience
- Ability to drive to data collection sites with applicable equipment
- Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations
