DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:


  • The Inventory/Gift Shop Clerk maintains an inventory of incoming and outgoing merchandise for the Gift Shops and provides coverage in any of the Gift Shops as needed. Works independently and has experience in retail sales. Responsible for balancing of cash, credit cards, and employee deductions daily and recording. Reports to Manager of Volunteer Services & Gift Shop.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


  • Receives, organizes and records merchandise, enters barcode information in the computer, and attaches price labels to merchandise.
  • Maintains and updates inventory records.
  • Takes stock inventory.
  • Provides coverage in the Gift Shops as needed which requires operating computerized cash registers, scanners, and affiliated POS and inventory systems.
  • Assists in Merchandising.
  • Assists in ordering, receiving, and pricing assigned gift shop items.
  • Assists in selling merchandise in the gift shop.
  • Closes the gift shop daily.
  • Maintains accurate pricing.
  • Balance cash and daily sales.
  • Post daily sales in financials.
  • Prepare and make daily deposits.
  • Assist volunteers in cash register procedures as needed.
  • Assist with volunteer service programs (i.e. Jr Volunteer, Window to Healthcare, Hospital Volunteer/Auxiliary programs).
  • Assist the manager with other tasks as needed/assigned.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent; Two or more years of college preferred
  • 35 years working experience.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel. Proficient a computerized Inventory POS System. Experience with computerized cash register and scanner.
  • Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
  • Intermediate math skills.
  • Requires emotional stability and resilience; Must be adaptable to change and receptive to delegated responsibilities and reassignment.
  • Customer service or sales experience preferred.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, bending, stooping and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual acuity required for specific activities.
  • Must have normal hearing.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers, employees and medical personnel.
  • Flexible working hours and some weekends may be involved.
