JOB SUMMARY:

County Planner Recruitment Brochure


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides cordial, responsive, and accurate customer service.

Acquires and maintains a thorough familiarity with the Comprehensive Plan and Community Plans and the implementing ordinances.


Based on the technical review, prepares staff reports with official recommendations to the County Commissioners, Planning Commission, and the Board of Appeals.

Works closely with engineers and surveyors throughout the development review process to ensure compliance with local land use regulations.

Assists in the implementation of Comprehensive Plans and Community Plans addressing growth management issues, zoning, and infrastructure needs.

Analyzes, prepares documents, reports and maps utilizing current or historical data from a variety of sources (i

e:
census, building permit information, preserved/developed lands).


Assists in scheduling, conducting, and participating in meetings with various groups including citizens, the business community, special interest groups, or other county departments.

Maintains and updates development and demographic information on county-wide basis, as well as for the growth areas.

Responsible for administering and implementing state laws and programs at the County level.


Attends and represents Department at various organizational meetings and functions of the County Commissioners, Planning Commission, and Board of Appeals.

Explains planning concepts, zoning regulations and processes to the general public.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


County Planner

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Bachelor's degree in planning, geography, landscape architecture, environmental studies, engineering, or a related field; or two or more years related experience in land use planning and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:


Must possess a Class C Maryland Motor vehicle operators License or equivalent or ability to obtain such license within 30 days employment.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Typically sits at a desk or computer table. Occasionally walks, stands, or stoops. Occasionally lifts, carries, pushes, pulls, or otherwise moves objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
