JOB DESCRIPTION

The Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence (MPI-BI) is located in the southwest of Munich, with two locations in Martinsried and Seewiesen.

It is one of over 80 independent research institutes of the Max Planck Society. With around 500 employees from more than 50 nations, we research the fundamentals of "biological intelligence".

We aim to understand how animal organisms have developed abilities over the course of evolution to cope with a constantly changing environment and to find new solutions to problems.

To support our team at the animal facility in Seewiesen (district of Starnberg), we are currently looking for an animal caretaker with a focus on research and clinic.

What to expect:

Care and maintenance of animals (primarily birds)
Setting up and cleaning cages and aviaries
Collaboration with researchers and veterinarians to ensure the well-being of the animals
Monitoring and reporting on animal behavior and health
Maintaining accurate records and documentation
Compliance with animal welfare regulations and protocols

Requirements:

Completed training as an animal caretaker or equivalent qualification
Experience in working with animals, preferably in a research or clinical setting
Knowledge of animal behavior and welfare
Ability to work independently and in a team
Good communication skills
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
