  • Collaborates with schools and related service providers in the development of IEPs
  • Reviews data collected on student progress
  • Prepares reports of student progress for parents and interagency planning groups (e.g., Family Assessment and Planning Team [FAPT].
  • Collaborates with CCPS staff to develop transition plans for students to return to a less restrictive setting, when appropriate
  • Conducts educational evaluations for eligibility.
  • Ability to navigate meetings with a variety of stakeholders using effective verbal and written communication
  • FollowsSchool Board policy, procedure and guidelines. Ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statute, policy and guidelines related to public and private day schools and in particular the operation of special education programs.
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Report Preparation:


  • Prepares IEPs, progress reports, prior written notices, eligibility documentation, educational evaluations, and summary of performance reports.

Equipment Operation:


Contacts:


  • Contacts with all levels of CCPS personnel, private day school staff, and various outside agencies, including Children's Services Act, Community Services Board, Department of Social Services, and private providers.

Work Direction:


  • Provides work direction to special education secretary/administrative assistant.

Decision Making:


  • High level of independent decision making is required.

Work Environment:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a school or office environment. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.

Qualifications:

Considerable knowledge of the special education process, including the eligibility process and developing individualized education plans.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; to interact effectively and cooperatively with others, and to exercise good judgment.

Demonstrated ability to develop reports using word processing and spreadsheet programs.


Requirements:


  • Must hold a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in special education. Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred. Three to five years successful teaching experience in Special Education required. Must become MANDT Certified. Must hold a valid Virginia Driver's license. Special education leadership experience preferred. Three years experience in a secondary setting as well as knowledge of graduation requirements preferred.
