Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Perform duties in proper uniform.
  • Supervise all Police field operations within Command.
  • Ensure that subordinate uniform personnel are compliant with all policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Conduct Roll Call and inspect subordinates to ensure they are in proper uniform and issue uniform deficiency reports and/or direct the removal of unauthorized items.

General task and responsibilities will include:

  • Disseminate Hot-sheets, memos and other documentation that advises uniformed personnel of current protocols, unusual occurrences and emergencies as directed by Hospital Police Administration at Roll Call.
  • Patrol assigned areas to conduct supervisory rounds during the tour and sign each officer's memo book as required.
  • Respond to calls for service, including missing patients and crimes that may require supervisory decision.
  • Assist patient, visitors, staff and guests while staying current on all conditions that may require Hospital Police Intervention.
  • Respond to and supervise the scene of all police enforcement, including the issuance of summonses and arrest.

Minimum Qualifications:


For Appointment to Assignment Level I:

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a states Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in the field of law enforcement, protection or security; or
  • An Individualized Education Program (IEP) diploma and eighteen months of full-time satisfactory experience as described in 1 above.
  • Current New York State Peace Officer certification.

For Appointment to Assignment Level II:
In addition to meeting the requirements for Assignment Level I, appointment to Assignment Level II requires:

  • Four years of satisfactory experience as a Special Officer, at least two years of which must have been as a Supervising Special Officer, Level I; or
  • Four years of full-time satisfactory experience in the field of law enforcement, protection or security, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

Special Note:

  • A valid New York State motor vehicle driver license may be required for appointment to certain positions based on the operational needs of the network/facility. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
