Recreation Aide - Seasonal Camp Counselor

Seasonal, Non-Exempt

Starting Pay:
$14.00/hr


Under direct supervision of the Youth and Family Supervisor, assist with the organization and direction of various City recreational activities and events.

The employee is always in direct physically supervision of all activities that they are assigned which demands a certain degree of independence.

Work is performed within the framework of pre-established lesson plans and activity guidelines.


Essential Duties:


  • Provides assistance in the direction and development of recreational activities such as sports, games, dancing, arts and crafts, nature activities and music.
  • Develops activities that are in conjunction with the scheduled activities but not posted on the pre
- established lesson plans.

  • Participate as well as assist with the various techniques, rules and regulations of team and individual sports, games and other activities.
  • Maintains order, discipline and safety.
  • Maintains selfcontrol at the same time displaying appropriate sportsmanship behaviors to all youth.
  • Ensures the health, safety, and wellbeing of children in the program by providing close supervision of all activities for students.
  • Works cooperatively with school staff and counselors.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of a daily program which will meet the needs of the children in attendance; set up program, project, and activity areas as needed.
  • Collaborate and assist in designing and implementing activities and assignments to encourage attendee's intellectual, creative, artistic, and athletic enrichment and abilities; assist students in working on and completing after school program assignments, projects, and activities.
  • Interact with children in an effort to build selfesteem and form a comfort level with their peers; answer student questions, provide proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
  • Form positive relationships with youth and families.
  • Participates in cleaning and maintaining the facilities and equipment
  • Maintains order, discipline and safety.
  • Maintains accurate program documentation such as incident/accident reports, attendance, and signin/signout sheets.
  • Maintains selfcontrol at the same time displaying appropriate sportsmanship behaviors to all youth.
  • Attend all camp related trainings.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned.

Qualifications

  • This position requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED or currently enrolled in high school or college
  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Some college preferred with concentration in education, child development, or similar field of study.
  • Must have experience working with children.
  • Must have ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to deal with the general public of all ages tactfully and effectively.
  • Must be physically able to actively participate in sports instruction.
  • Ability to develop positive interest in recreational activities.
  • Must have a positive attitude toward youth of all ages.
  • Availability to work summer camp hours.
  • Must complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of probationary period.
