ASSISTANT GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT

DEPARTMENT OF STREETS & SANITATION

BUREAU OF SANITATION

Starting Salary:
$
99,456; Grade BX-20
Under direction, assists General Superintendent in managing the operations of a bureau responsible for infrastructure programs, and performs related duties as required


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Participates in the planning and development of organizational objectives and program goals designed to
- improve work operations and the delivery of services to City residents

  • Monitors and assesses field operations and prepares reports evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of
- programs and productivity

  • Oversees field supervisors to ensure the effective implementation of new and revised procedures and
- policies designed to contain operating and personnel costs

  • Coordinates work activities with supervisors to monitor daily work activities, City events, and/or emergency
- situations and ensure work objectives are met

  • Assists in preparing the bureau's operating budget, ensuring programs are adequately funded as required
  • Works with departmental managers in implementing and managing new program initiatives
- relating to infrastructure improvements, sanitation services or forestry procedures

  • Represents the department at community meetings to provide information on departmental programs and
services

  • Prepares management reports on project and program costs and productivity
  • Oversees handling of personnel and union issues, as required
  • Identifies, creates and implements strategies to improve workflow and productivity.
  • Additional duties may be required for this position_

Days/Hours:6:00am - 2:30pm, hours can vary as needed**
THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM CAREER SERVICE.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a directly related field, plus five (5) years of work experience in surface transportation infrastructure, sanitation operations, towing operations OR forestry operations, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous work experience in solid waste or recycling, water management, surface transportation infrastructure
  • Proficiency with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software such as Saleforce or Microsoft Dynamics
  • Previous work experience in positions directing, coordinating, and overseeing large scale infrastructure programs and projects
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Software
