GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Indian Child Social Services Prevention Worker provides child abuse prevention and supportive services assisting with strength-based wrap around services to families in need.

The Prevention Worker will coordinate with Kumeyaay Family Services departments, San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), and Consortium tribes to provide information and resources and referrals to prevent the breakup of Indian Families.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Works closely with the Indian Child Social Services Coordinator, ICSS Case Manager, and HHSA to prevent child abuse through education, referrals, and assessments in the tribal community.
  • Works within the tribal community to address referrals and provides services, culturally based education, assessments, referrals to crisis counseling and developmental screenings.
  • Keeps current with community needs for services and prevention health education to recognize the mental health conditions and break down barrier to access services.
  • Conducts community presentations on child abuse awareness and prevention, program activities and services available.
  • Works closely with Kumeyaay Family Services Departments, including therapists, prevention counselors, domestic violence advocates, case managers, and substance abuse counselors to share resources and work in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Attends and contributes to Clinical Case Consultations, Child Protective Team (CPT) meetings to support client needs, address community issues and promote resources.
  • Database entry into case management software system and complete all the necessary paperwork to promote internal communication with all ICSS staff, maintaining accurate information.
  • Working knowledge of agency policies and procedures, AAAHC, HIPAA, confidentiality, Health & Human Services, and other county, state, Tribal, and federal regulations.
  • Understanding of the Award Terms and Conditions of grant.
  • Responsible for documenting all client interactions in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule may be required based on need.
  • Other duties as assigned that fit the needs of the Grant, Department, and SIHC.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/Experience:
B.S./B.A.

degree from an accredited institution in the field of social services or related area and three (3) years experience in a social services field.

Must have knowledge of American Indians and Indian values and practices. Must have good verbal and written communication skills, as well as good stress management and organizational skills.

Must have knowledge of responsibilities involved in doing work that is highly confidential and the handling and processing of confidential information.

Must have knowledge of the local area, in particular the Indian reservations, for the purpose of making home visits. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public.

Physical and Personal Requirements:
Normal clinic/office environment. Sit or stand for long periods of time. Reach, bend, climb, stoop, lift up to 25 lbs. repetitive hand movement; use and view PC. Reliable transportation and car insurance as required by the state. Travel as needed.
