PhD candidate (m/f/d) in surface technology - resource conservation through AI process optimization:

Contact:

Name:
Hendrik Heinemann

Telephone:

Provider:
Chair of Surface Technology in Mechanical Engineering

Our Profile:

From the beginning, surface technology has served sustainability. By adapting the surface to an application, resources and energy can be saved, resulting in sustainable products. The
Institute of Surface Technology (IOT) is dedicated to research and development in joining and surface technology. The processes used include thermal spraying, physical vapor deposition (PVD), welding, and soldering. Our dedicated and open-minded team addresses current environmental and resource conservation issues. Industrial relevant surface and joining technologies are used to solve these challenges.

The research group
Thermal Spraying - Process Technology (TS-P) is working on the further development of the coating process. This involves using simulations, machine learning, and modern process diagnostics to analyze and monitor thermal spraying processes.

In addition, new coating systems with functions beyond traditional wear and corrosion protection, such as heating layers, are being developed.

Current research focuses include
increasing ecology and
cost-effectiveness of plasma spraying. This is achieved through the diagnosis of particle impact and layer formation.

The process is analyzed using a high-speed camera and the results are used to predict new process parameters with higher deposition efficiencies through
machine learning.

This is expected to lead to
