Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services was founded in 1906, and today we continue to help at-risk youth through a full continuum of care by supporting children across settings and over time. Our broad range of programs includes residential care, mental health counseling, homelessness prevention, and education and career pathways. Our services are deeply rooted in equity and leveling the playing field so high-risk youth have the best chance to succeed and achieve bright futures.
In accordance with CA law, the expected pay range for this CA position is posted with this position.

The actual compensation may be determined based on bona fide factors such as education, experience, and other factors permitted by law.


Salary range for this position:
$ $28.38 / hour

Hiring Range for this position:
$ $20.50 / hour


Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:


  • Responsible for working with parents and guardians to review intake documents as it relates to school records and history and gathers all school-related documentation (educational rights holder, transcripts, etc.)
  • Assists parents and guardians with school enrollments and school transfers as needed.
  • Ensures each client's file has educational information that is complete and updated.
  • Attends IEP meetings, CFT meetings, and team meetings as needed.
  • Maintains contact with the client's treatment team and CSW/PO regarding school progress.
  • Documents client's progress/linkage per DMH and agency standards and meets productivity guidelines.
  • Assists parents/guardians in maintaining school schedule and informs treatment team on regular basis.
  • Serves as the main contact between school administration and treatment program.
  • Assists in identifying educational needs (i.e.,tutoring, school goals/incentives) to support academic progress.
  • Attends re-entry meetings and responds to school disciplinary concerns and meetings.
  • Attends required training and supervision meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) plus four years of experience in a mental health setting preferred. Minimum requirements include a BA/BS plus two years of experience working with youth; OR 5 + years' experience working at a public, charter, or nonpublic school with specific knowledge regarding admissions procedures, special education regulations and requirements, and the IEP process.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in a variety of circumstances and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Experience working as part of a team, while also demonstrating initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Satisfactorily fulfill the requirements for employment at Optimist Youth Homes Services (i.e. references, physical examination, criminal records clearance, ProAct, First Aid and CPR, etc.)
  • Must be willing to drive and transport clients on occasion in personal vehicle.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID1
  • Must be able to pass criminal/fingerprinting background check, TB Test, Physical Exam and Drug Testing.
  • Must have the visual, physical and technical ability to independently operate a variety of office equipment including the use of a computer. Will also require bending, stooping, filing, lifting of office files.
  • Ability to verbally communicate well with others.
  • Possess valid California Driver's License, a clear DMV record, and a positive driving record in compliance with personnel standards.
  • All employees, regardless of position, serve as role models for children and adolescents who are served by our agencies. Therefore, each employee must at all times be emotionally stable and able to function effectively with children, adolescents and adults who may have mental or behavioral health problems. The staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate daily behavior, appropriate expression of emotions as well as appropriate role modeling. Hostility, aggression, and unnecessary or inappropriate physical actions as well as inappropriate emotional expression are not acceptable.

Pay:
From $22.50 per hour
