Duties:

As a Realty Specialist, GS , your typical work assignments may include:

  • Providing technical guidance on complex matters such as whether to dispose or rehabilitate an older, possible historically significant building to various DHS components with diverse mission, other federal agencies, and local governments, Headquarters, and Congressional staff.
  • Preparing agreements for relinquishment of property to BLM, transfer of property from/to other Federal agencies, exchange of property with nonfederal owners, and execute legislatively mandated transfers.
  • Conducting complex negotiations on properties that may not be appealing to mission activities if they require major repairs or environmental remediation for which mission activities lack funding to complete and with key stakeholders in disposal process including local governments, other federal agencies, and nonprofit organization that are often at odds over how to dispose of properties.
  • Serving as a technical consultant for resolving difficult problems in managing and/or out granting of real property that involves political interest, community opposition, and unusual types of properties.
  • Conducting negotiations with representative for other Departments, state, and local governmental authorities, representative of corporations, and private individuals.

  • This position requires you to have access, safeguard, and store classified national security information on a regular basis. You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • You will be required to complete an OGE 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, within 30 days of starting your federal employment and annually thereafter as long as you occupy a position that requires financial disclosure reporting.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holiday and/or overtime.

Specialized Experience:


  • Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.
  • All requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
