- Lead qualitative and/or quantitative research, from study design to report writing.
- Act as a subject matter expert across projects.
- Supervise food and nutrition team members to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Manage project costs and financial performance.
- Cultivate client relationships.
- Participate in business development activities, including proposal development.
- Master's degree in public policy, public health, social science, or related field plus 8 years of relevant experience; or Ph.D. in a related field plus 5 years of pertinent experience.
- Experience overseeing federal contract budgets, schedules, and teams.
- Demonstrated ability in collecting and analyzing qualitative and/or quantitative data.
- Proficiency in working with federal nutrition assistance programs like SNAP, WIC, and NSLP/SBP.
- Strong writing skills with a significant publication and presentation record in food and nutrition topics.
- Effective communication skills.

Westat is currently seeking a Principal Research Associate to join its team of experts in food and nutrition research, evaluation, policy analysis, and technical assistance provision to support various nutrition assistance programs on a federal level. As a Principal Research Associate, you will be responsible for overseeing projects, conducting research and evaluations, shaping the team's strategic direction, and seeking new business opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in conducting research related to food and nutrition assistance programs under federal government contracts. This position offers full-time telework options, although occasional travel for team gatherings, project work, and conferences may be necessary.
