Position Summary

Summary:


The Patient Care Associate (PCA) is a specially trained member of the Nursing Department who provides assistance to either the RN or LPN in delivery of selected aspects of patient care.

The Patient Care Associate understands and complies with the Philosophy, Standards, Objectives and Policies of the Department. The Patient Care Associate obtains blood specimens and assists in other tasks as needed.


Qualifications

Responsibilities:

Education Required

  • Must complete inhouse orientation program
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one of the following:
  • Successful completion of an approved Nursing Assistant training program OR equivalent based on established criteria
  • Successful completion of an approved Patient Care Technician training program
  • Successful completion of Mount Sinai South Nassau Student Nurse Intern Program (300 hours)
  • Successful completion of 2 semesters of hospitalbased clinical practicum while enrolled in an accredited nursing program
  • Completion of Support Staff Orientation (Mount Sinai South Nassau).

Experience And Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Speaks, reads and writes English
  • Completion of 2 clinicals (with patient in the acute care setting) while enrolled in a Nursing program, if not trained as a Patient Care Technician.
  • Technical skills required for patient care.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy course/competency or successful completion of MSSN phlebotomy training within 90 days of hire.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Requires manual dexterity.
  • Basic Computer Skills
