Training as a Biological-Technical Assistant (BTA)

During the two-year training as a Biological-Technical Assistant (BTA), you will learn to conduct investigations in all biological fields, for example to test the purity and/or compatibility of food, medicines, or plant substances. You will learn the proper use of chemical-technical procedures such as microscopy or cell culture. A core activity in this field is the preparation, execution, and evaluation of experiments. You will mainly work in laboratories, should have an interest in biology and chemistry, and be able to work accurately and carefully.

The training includes a four-week internship. In addition, you can also obtain the technical college entrance qualification parallel to the training by attending additional classes.

Contents of the BTA training

During the training, you will acquire knowledge in biotechnology and chemistry and learn basic working techniques.

Theoretical subjects include, for example:

  • Botany
  • Ecology
  • Zoology
  • Molecular and Biochemistry
  • Genetics
  • General education classes: Math, German, Politics, etc.
In practical classes, you will learn, among other things:
  • Separating and purifying substances and analyzing them
