Your Sixth Sense: Why It’s Important in Your Business
I know. Your eyeballs probably rolled upwards thinking what kind of woo-woo article is this going to be, right?
Except it’s not woo-woo at all. In fact, I find most people I work with have this sixth sense. CEO’s, executives, entrepreneurs, marketing and sales people, housewives. They all demonstrate to me they have it.
But they ignore it.
Back in the 60’s and 70’s it was referred to as ESP. Again, it was one of those things that was often relegated to your sister’s Ouija Board parties or something you discussed at Berkeley in between class.
What exactly is this “Sixth Sense?”
If you Google it or look it up in a dictionary, most definitions say this:
“A power of perception like, but not one of the five senses: a keen intuitive power.” (Merriam-Webster)
Hmmmm….a keen intuitive power.
Doesn’t sound too woo-woo to me.
And let’s clarify what intuition is:
Intuition: “Direct perception of truth, fact, etc., independent of any reasoning process.” (Dictionary.com)
Hmmmm...so this means you would perceive the truth of something directly. You wouldn’t have to figure it out or tell your Executive Assistant “Please get me all the reports we have on Allison since heading this project team.”
It would just be a direct perception.
Keep in mind as well that this is an extra-sensory perception.
Which is coming from you, the being. Not your body.
And this has nothing to do with religion, so stay with me here.
Whether you are your own soul or spirit, or life force or jelly bean or whatever you want to call it, is secondary. But this essence which is you, does have an extra sensory channel.
“Hey Eileen, you were right about Ricky, he wasn’t at school just like you thought. The school just called and said he and some other kids were busted down at the local park and we need to come pick him up.”
Eileen’s all smilin’ and shit while she’s putting the last of the dirty clothes in the washer. She’s smiling because she knew it.
It was a direct perception.
Her husband walks in the kitchen where Eileen is grabbing her purse and keys with that I told you so smile, and Ted asks, “How’d you know that, girl?”
“ESP, Teddy.”
And guess who does the eye roll now?
Even that is referred to as “women’s intuition” and women are keen at this from my experience. Men are too, but sometimes their telepathic stream gets interrupted from their Fantasy Football feeds, so it can be off a bit.
When Bill Clinton sat in front of the camera on national TV and waved his presidential finger at us and said “I never had sex with that woman,” my sixth sense could have been on total blackout and I would have seen directly through that. My intuition could have been on vacation in the Poconos and I still would have perceived the truth of that. I mean his nose got so long it almost broke my TV screen.
Direct perception is straight from you to this other being or situation.
It’s the ability to see things as they are.
When I go into any business, the first person I talk to of course is the CEO, Executive Director, or Owner. And I always ask for their take on what is going on. And one for one, each executive will tell me about certain personnel or staff they are having problems with.
And of course I go right for their direct perception.
“Got it on Greg and his declining sales. What’s your perception of this situation with Greg?”
“Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great sales executive. But my perception is he’s not telling me everything about why the deal’s not closing. I ask and probe and he gives me these seemingly intelligent replies, but I just sense I’m not getting the straight dope.”
Maybe we should call it Extra Sensory Dope?
If you’re reading this, tell me you haven’t been in a similar situation with someone in your company or department? Or even in your marriage or family?
Of course you have, and I can see it even with my intuitive powers in cloaking mode.
Here’s the thing:
All of us have this intuitive ability to a greater or lesser degree.
And it isn’t woo-woo or New Age or any of that other crap.
Don’t try to tell Eileen that it was a lucky guess. She’ll just smile and ask you how you like your coffee. Eileen knows that she knows.
Practically every single person I’ve ever worked with had some sense, some perception, some intuition about someone or something because hello...it was their direct perception.
If you feel your employee or spouse or colleague is fudging, or not being straight with you, you must be picking up something for you to feel that.
Check your Fudge Alarm.
“You know it just seemed like she was fudging on those numbers.”
Listen, when your smoke alarm goes off do you just shrug your shoulders and ignore it? These nice white oval detectors that sit quietly on our ceilings and never go off.
Until when?
Until there is smoke or the batteries are low, right?
So when your smoke alarm starts beeping do you just sit and watch TV and let ‘er beep?
Didn’t think so.
Your Spidey Sense or ESP or Extrasensory Dope alarm goes off for a reason. So what if it’s faulty batteries?!
Sounds like, smells like, not the straight dope from Greg?
Time to roll up your sleeves and check those batteries a little closer.
And I do. And often I will find Greg wasn’t actually following up with the client, but with Megan, the client’s Executive Assistant. Greg and Megan were doing the horizontal when he should have been doing Verizon with the client.
You may roll your eyeballs back on that but that is usually the woof and warp of why things are not rocking and rolling in your business, marriage, or life. I’ve done this for forty + years and I can tell you unequivocally the things preventing a great business or a great marriage are those things that a person least wants to confront.
Oh, and be ready for Ricky to tell you a whopper. He and Bill Clinton will be laughing their asses off while eating Big Mac’s swapping Pinocchio stories.
Things like ESP and telepathy and a host of other abilities have taken a beating down through time. And there’s a reason for that and that’s another whole article.
But the fact is you do have this ability.
If you do not get in there and roll up your CSI sleeves on these direct perceptions you have, you will never get the truth about Greg and your sales will be sluggish at best. And Mom’s are so intuitive these days, they do their Intuitive Check on their kid before they go out the door. But Ricky being a teen and spending most of his time with his head buried in his phone, has learned a few Jedi ESP tricks too. So he’s runnin’ his “It’s all good Mom” number to outsmart her.
Word to the wise: Mom’s are the Original Jedi’s. Even Ben Kenobi wouldn’t try to outsmart his Mom.
Lastly, those guys in the DNA ESP Division worked overtime to get this extra sensory perception install done right.
From the very first moment you directly perceived what the next card was while goofing around with your buddies in your dorm, or you knew what was inside that wrapped Christmas present under the tree, or even when you directly perceived that your boyfriend hid your engagement ring in his toolbox and you had to pretend you didn’t directly perceive it, you’ve had this sixth sense since the day you were born.
Listen: It was a free install. The only viruses that get in the way of you using your sixth sense are those doubts you buy into instead of listening to your own intuition alarm.
If that baby is beeping, don’t ignore it.
Roll up your sleeves and check it out like Kojak with a brand new lollipop.
And if you need some help, I have Eileen’s cell phone number.

Hi Lisa 🐝 Gallagher! Wow, thanks! And you're a real life "Eileen!" Soooooo glad to hear it! If people would look at it as a dormant ability----something that's always been there---but not exercised, they will have the first door in. People tend to suspect it, rather than say, "Well, what if I'm right?" And really, if you follow your sixth sense or intuition or whatever you want to call it, there is no downside, really. The upside is you can get down to the real situation sooner than later. And for any business or relationship, sooner is always better. Thanks again, Lisa!

Thanks very much, ! Wow, it's great to hear your own personal experiences with this. This is great! This is what I try to get other executives to just acknowledge that it's there and run with it. Even if you're in error, there's really "no harm, no foul." You're funny. I'm a BIG ESPN fan too. I grew up in California. Saw Sandy Koufax pitch his perfect game. I knew the Dodgers would win last night behind Kershaw. Okay, well sorry all you Houston fans. You get another chance tonight and although I love Dodger Blue, I love Verlander too!

Thanks very much, Kevin Baker! I agree. People have been somewhat disabused to listening to it. They just have to give it some room to breathe and follow it.

Hey Jerry Fletcher! Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Yes, most consultants and executives have it. It's a matter of not ignoring it and using it. It's an ability like any other ability. It has to be exercised!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Zacharias 🐝 Voulgaris! Yes, it's become more and more a part of the landscape. The main thing I teach is to how to go down the extra layer to get what is really blocking production. You always have the answer for real when production opens up!
