Your last thousand words

Your last thousand words

47da6f7c.jpg

Imagine a scenario in which you have only one thousand words left, either written or spoken, how would you spend them? Would you use them to give advice? How about yelling about all the things that bother you? Would you spend them discussing politics? How would you spend your last one thousand words?

As a pastor I have been there for peoples last thousand words so this question is not ethereal but truly based in reality. There will actually come a time when you only have one thousand words left. Considering what you will say might not be a bad idea. What truly matters to you might be left unsaid.

We often go through life looking at each day as just that, another day, to be used or not simply as we please. We rarely consider that it might be our last. Or that what we are saying might be the last thing they hear or the last thing we say. If this were not true I expect that we read and hear might be significantly different.

What do you want to be remembered for? Should you wait for your last day to begin to build that memory? Now I realize that our jobs often dictate what we write and say for a large part of our day but what about the remaining parts, what dictates those words?

Your last one thousand words might matter greatly, they will be your last contribution to those you interact with. What do you want to leave them knowing? The untrained tongue speaks only what it knows and the unpracticed hand will fail in times of stress.

May your day be filled with hope and a future.

Blessings

Lada, To be honest I am not totally sure. I have heard many talk about themselves sharing their favorite stories, remembering the good times. Others have spent it self absorbed while others have spent it unable to speak at all. I would like to think that I would spend them giving. I would like to use them to encourage, to help those that share that time with me to use their lives to gain something more. A persons last days should not be spent in morning but in rejoicing. And since I do not know when my last 1000 words will be spent I attempt to start every morning. Though as I started this comment with I am not totally sure. I expect only time will tell. May your day be filled with opportunity and joy.

Jerry, spending your last 1000 giving. Indeed a very good way to go.

Greg, you asked an interesting question. I never thought of that. People I love and care for already know how I feel about them because I say it all the time, so my last words will not contribute much in that sense. Since you as a pastor have been there for peoples last thousand words, I would like to know what would be your last thousand words?

Greg, If I knew I had but 1000 words left, I would ask the question, "How can I help?" then I'd listen and respond cogently as the conversation ensued. That, for me would constitute a good beginning and a good end. And so it goes.

Ken Boddie there is so much truth in what you just said, especially if your dead.

That still leaves you 999 to play around with, and it would be interesting to know if she could limit herself to one word and what it would be if she could.

If I haven鈥檛 updated my last wishes when old mate with the hoody and scythe comes calling, Greg, I鈥檇 defer to my wife. She always has the last word.

Good question Greg. My answer is I would paint a picture. Why? Well as the song goes A picture paints a thousand words. I would leave it to those who looked at the picture to decide what I was thinking when I painted it. I might even write underneath can you say in 985 words what the artist was thinking? (That's 985 + the fifteen of the sentence, which would make it the 1000 words you specified)
