When you look at the world and it looks back what does it see?

A very great deal of effort is put into image. The very core of self image is often dictated by what we believe others see or more accurately what we fear others see. The very real influence of image is what drives the consumer market and the advertisement industry.

But I expect the obvious question is why is our self image determined by what we believe other see or what we fear they see? Why should I permit what others see to determine what I see in myself or in others? Why should I relinquish my opinion to others? Who was the first person to eat a snail in public?

Historically speaking those who hold the extreme perspective of rejecting the worlds views are considered either insane or genius. The title is selected by how their view is accepted or rejected over time by those they influence. Why was putting an umbrella in a drink ever a good idea?

But shall we return to the topic of image. The clothing industry dictates what is in fashion and looks good and what does not. The perfume industry tells us what smells we should appreciate. These industries so heavily influence how we see ourselves and how others see us that some might consider it a form of control. But how do you see yourself? What do you like?

Being unique is a risk. Being ourselves can be difficult. When you look at the world and it looks back just how much do you care what it sees? Freedom costs but that cost is not always a price that we are willing to pay. So the most important question actually is, do you smile when you look at yourself?

Blessings
