What Nicholas Robertson Can Bring to Team USA

Nicholas Robertson is among the many hopeful invitees that are looking forward to earning a spot to represent America in the upcoming World Junior Championship (WJC). The tournament will be held in the Czech Republic. Robertson is a prospect for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The invitees gathered in Plymouth, Michigan.

This particular training camp has a tight schedule. The players were expected to arrive very early on Sunday, December 15. They participated in various practices soon after their arrival. They then participated in the morning skate and a scrimmage against the USA under-18 team. After the scrimmage, the general manager and the director of hockey operations prepared the final team roster.

Robertson was one of the 23 men who were selected to represent Team USA. The team will play two exhibition games before submitting their final roster. Their opening match will be against Team Canada, and the game is scheduled on Boxing Day. They will then square it off with Sweden on December 22.

Robertson had an outstanding season with the Peterborough Petes. He averaged more than one goal a game the whole season. Out of 22 contests, he had more than 23 goals. Robertson’s prowess in scoring is undeniable. The national team needs to drop three players in their current roster. Robertson is likely to make it on the final list.

A team of coaches will also be involved in preparing the final roster. The head coach of Team USA is Scott Sandelin and will be assisted by the other four coaches. He was the best pick to lead this team because off his experience. This will be his fourth time as a head coach in this tournament.

Sandelin may have an advantage because the whole coaching staff is already conversant with his family. His brother, Jason, played for Team USA in last year’s WJC. He had an outstanding game where he had six assists and one goal. He was a second-round pick and he now plays for the Dallas Stars.

The Leafs will be monitoring their second-round pick to see if he will outdo his brother. Robertson will use his experience to prove that he is ready to perform well in the OHL. Although he is young, such a competitive tournament will help him improve his skills.
