What is the truth

What is the truth

What is the truth

When listening to people I hear many of them say that all they are after is the truth. With all the information that is being broadcast, it can be hard to filter the facts from the fiction or opinion. This can often result in confusion and frustration. For Christians, this frustration is often the result of forgetting that truth is a person and not an idea or construct.

In John 14:6 Jesus reminds us that He is the way the truth and the life. When we come to understand that He did not mean He was a truth but actually the truth we can begin the grasp how we are to interpret the input we see and are inundated with. We are called to filter what we see through Jesus to find the truth in the situation.

While this is not a difficult concept to grasp it can be difficult to apply to our daily lives. How does filtering what we see and hear through Jesus reveal the truth? Or even how are we supposed to filter what we see and hear through Jesus?

Here is one example that might help us understand just how this filtering works. We have been flooded with the idea that if you do not agree with me, you must hate me. As strange an idea as this is it has gained some significant traction.

When looking at Jesus we recognize that Jesus loved everybody. This does not mean He agreed with everybody. While Jesus very much loved the Pharisees, He did not agree with everything they taught in fact in Matthew 23 Jesus truly rebukes them for many of their teachings and activities going so far as to call them a brood of vapors in verse 33. These words a very harsh and even seem hateful if you take them out of the context of Jesus’ agenda. Jesus had but one desire for them, their salvation.

On the cross Jesus not retreating from His desire for them to be saved quotes a scripture that was intended to reveal who He was. Psalms 22:1. This last call was directed to grab their thoughts and reveal His truth to them. And it appears to some of them it worked.

When we look through the lens of Jesus as the truth, we are able to discern the truth in what we see and hear. Jesus is the truth and is our foundation for determining how we are to look at what we are told. As in this example, I can love you and still disagree with you. I can tell you; that you are wrong and still desire your best. So do not accept the lie that just because someone disagrees with your position, they must hate you. The truth is they might very much love you.

Truth has become a commodity and no longer is the ultimate value it used to be sad state of affairs

It appears that truth is like heaven.

Everybody wants it, but they don't want it right now.

You say rightly John ..

“Truths in the form of beliefs are constantly changing as they are challenged.”

Truth loves testing ❤️

Truth has nothing to prove ❤️❤️❤️

"Truth passes through three phases:

First it is ridiculed

Second it is fiercely and violently opposed.

Third, it becomes self-evident. – Arthur Schopenhauer

The thought that leapt into my mind when I read this … had to do with Jesus Christ Jesus referred to Himself as: (I AM) “Truth”

Jesus was “ridiculed” (especially by the religious establishment: the teachers of the law, scribes & Pharisees)

The rejection (from “educated” religious leaders) further escalated.  Jesus was “fiercely and violently opposed”

And then after the death & resurrection of Christ - the Truth became “self-evident” (all one has to do is examine history)

Truth is unchanging .. because God is unchanging

Beliefs only change .. because the people who hold them change.

Beliefs can be many things: true of false .. right or wrong .. good or bad .. eternally important or a mere grain of sand.

Humans should be very, very careful about what they choose to believe .. or not believe. We should deeply examine our beliefs.

Eternity is a long time. A very, very long time.

@Greg Rolfe

The world is in CHAOS because there is an attempt to redefine Truth and to diminish Truth

What is Truth & What is right?

The Source of both is found in Light

The sun comes up every day .. but how many people see the Light? (I'm speaking spiritually ..  as in "Jesus is the Light of men"

The dilemma is that people have low .. or no regard for Truth (I'm speaking of Ultimate truth)

"This is the verdict:

Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God." - John 3

We live in a world where darkness grows

What IS Truth? Who cares? Who knows?

Darkness blinds and binds. LIES (untruths) are multiplying for this very reason.

This condition is spiritual. Darkness creates DELUSION – people live in their chosen reality.

Darkness cannot hide from Truth.

But is can close its eyes & harden it’s heart.

Truth can be very confrontational .. unsettling. (I'm speaking about spiritual Truth)

"the truth only angers .. hurts .. when it challenges a lie you are living." @John Rylance

No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.” - Plato

Who knew this more than Jesus Christ .. Who declared himself:  "I Am .. Truth"

Human-opinion sets itself up as the (flawed) standard of truth

.. in truth: human-opinion is as common as dust

.. human-opinion is rarely worthy of trust

One of the mantras of  Child Behavioural Management was I like you but I don't always like what you do.

What your piece brought to my mind was One Persons truth is often another person's lie.

I don't share your beliefs

But while I respect your opinions I don't agree with your truths.

I hasten to add I don't see your truths as lies, but firm beliefs I don't share.
