Thinking is more than agreeing and friends are more than parrots

If you are anything like me you have friends who hold differing opinions and it can feel like being a referee, but to be honest this is a good thing. The ability to hold different opinions and ideas and then have the ability to express these ideas in an open and honest discussion is a dying opportunity.

Encourage discussions now I do not mean arguments. Yes discussions can become heated and even intense but as long as there is listening on both sides it is vital to growth in our own abilities to think and consider differing views and ideas. When listening during a conversation ends what do we have left?

When did it become wrong to truly listen to an opposing view? When did we become so insecure in our own ability to think and consider that we are not willing to have open and honest debates and conversations? My thoughts on that are simple, it’s when it became wrong to let someone hold an opposing opinion and remain their friend.

Be the friend who is willing to be a referee and keep the peace, let honest thinking return to relationships. Friendships must be more than simply agreeing on everything. You have to be able to disagree and still have lunch.
