The salary is attractive but not retentive

Attracting talent is as important as retaining it. However, many companies still fail to understand that commitment and job satisfaction are key to keeping their most valuable employees in the long run. Emotional salary has become a crucial strategy for attracting and retaining talent.

It is fundamental to have a fair pay for the worker’s position and duties, as well as incentives for achieved goals or earned merits. Nevertheless, if an organization wants to retain talents, especially among the new generations; emotional salary must be implemented. Work-life balance, inclusion, diversity, sustainability, growth and updating are highly valued by millennials; therefore often when companies take effective measures towards these needs they exponentially increase employee loyalty.

Here are some inspiring examples of different successful approaches including emotional salary strategies adopted by companies:

  • Google - Employee Benefits and Corporate Culture: Google is known for its exceptional employee benefits programs and unique corporate culture. It offers free healthcare, onsite gyms, high-quality free food and time off for personal projects. Additionally, Google promotes an inclusive and supportive culture where employees feel valued and empowered.
  • Salesforce - Personal Well-being and Development: Salesforce stands out with its focus on employee well-being and professional development. It provides comprehensive wellness programs that include access to gyms, yoga & meditation classes; as well as continuous education opportunities through training & education programs. Additionally Salesforce has an inclusive & diverse culture which fosters sense of belonging among employees.
  • Patagonia - Social & Environmental Commitment: Patagonia is famous for its social & environmental causes commitment. The company offers paid time off for employees to participate in volunteer activities related to environmental conservation. Also cares about workers’ welfare by providing flexible schedules & outdoor enjoyment chances.
  • Zalando - Volunteering & Social Engagement: Zalando based in Berlin has implemented a volunteering program that allows employees exchange several hours of work for opportunity help projects or causes they are interested in. This approach not only strengthens employees’ commitment to the company but also contributes to local communities by promoting a sense of purpose and satisfaction among workers.
  • Airbnb - Profit Sharing & Business Success Participation: Airbnb has implemented profit sharing program that allows employees share in the company’s financial success. Additionally, it grants stock bonuses and invites investment in personal projects. This fosters a sense of ownership among employees towards the company's future lasting success.
  • Starbucks - Incentives & Growth Opportunities: Starbucks offers a range of benefits and incentives for its employees including health insurance, retirement plans, product discounts etc. Additionally, the company provides professional growth opportunities through training programs and leadership development which helps motivate employees and foster sense of belonging within Starbucks community.

Implementing emotional salary strategies and employee benefit programs can be an excellent way to attract and retain talent in your company. Commitment to well-being, personal development as well as involvement in social & environmental causes not only strengthens employees’ emotional connection with the company but also enhances productivity, job satisfaction and corporate image. Consider adopting these practices in your organization to cultivate a positive work environment that inspires.
