The current atmosphere?

The current atmosphere?

The current atmosphere?

This morning I sampled a variety of tick-tocks, posts, and YouTube shorts just to see what was out there. I made sure I did not just view only one style or agenda-driven message but attempted to honestly spread out what I watched. I viewed comedy, politics, news, and some I am not sure where to place them but one central theme very clearly to the fore. Conflict.

At this point in time, the vast majority of the offerings I am presented with are focused on conflict. A world at war with itself. People looking for a reason to yell at another person. People looking to increase their viewership by attacking another group. What is the end goal?

As a people where do we believe this will end? Or perhaps a better question is how will this end? With conflict raised to the point where it is the goal, where does it end? Or maybe a reasonable question is how does it end? Historically speaking I believe the answer is war. I do not believe that is the agenda of those who are using this increasing level of conflict to farm new “likes”. I think their agenda is simple to gain support for their various channels and platforms. But then what? Have they failed to think ahead? Do they have an end play or plan to transition from conflict to something beneficial?

Yesterday is gone, but its troubles have yet to move on. Why do we continue to give them a place at the table?

Do I think too much? Am I overanalyzing this?

May your day be filled with better thoughts!

Blessings!

I don't think you are over analyzing it. I look around in those same places and a lot of what I see is banality and egotism in the extreme. But I also see a lot more willful ignorance. It's as if people no longer give a shit. It's all about them. This is how authoritarianism takes hold and destroys what little people have left.

Can’t say I observe conflict as predominant on the SM platforms I trawl through, Greg. I would say that an obvious lack of grammar, writing skills, and often general knowledge, tend to be obvious in people’s interactions these days. These shortcomings often arise, perhaps, through no fault of the platform user, but are propagated by many factors, including a failure in our various education systems. I would suggest that conflict and war tends to be more the chosen subject matter of the news media. We all know that bad news sells best, but are our appetites for it responsible for it’s often unbalanced portrayal in the media, or should our mainstream journalists carry the sole blame? Which came first, the selection of the most shocking stories, or our attraction to reading them at the exclusion of positivity? Are we being sucked into a downward spiral of ‘newsworthy’ negativity or is the world actually becoming more conflicted?

a lot of toxic pockets of exacerbated vocal individualism out there I agree I don't have the answer to this, but it is soul destroying at times
