Taking Time
I went to my son's food truck yesterday. His menu includes fry bread tacos, or Indian tacos. I like the chicken and pork ones. The guys working for him were busy with the lunch rush. Its good to see my kids making lives for themselves.
A guy sat down at the park table I was eating at. I've seen him playing chess every now and then. He asked me how long I had been playing chess and told me I was good at it.
I told him I got good at chess when I went to Alaska to work and used to play the Russian deckhands when they were in port. Those guys are hard to beat. They take the game seriously.
He started talking about how he played online. He said chess is a universal game and that people all over the world play it. He likes it because nothing is left to chance and there was nothing hidden, like in cards,. You can see everything that happens right there on the board and it teaches strategy.
I told him I don't know anything about that. Chess is just a game to pass the time for me. I like it when kids come around the big game that is set up and knock pieces down and even run off with them. They remind everyone it's just a game.
We chatted for a few minutes and he went to eat lunch and said maybe he'd see me later and play a game.
When I checked my email there was an invite to join a writers group. I haven't written anything in my blog for a while and realized its been almost a month since I took the time to write anything.
I took an online blogging course a year ago. It seemed interesting and I wanted to stay busy for the summer semester since I wasn't taking any classes at college.
Now a writers group is sending me an invite to how to join them and have access to information on how to make some spare cash writing. How cool is that!!
Since I like blogging its something I do in my spare time. For a while I was posting daily. Now its more like weekly.
Since I like blogging and haven't written anything for a while I had to ask myself, WHY?
My guess is- If you don't take the time to do something you like you forget about it. People say, Out of Sight, Out of Mind. Maybe its true. Maybe it doesn't have to be true.
I'm going to make an effort to keep writing and drawing and do things I like to do. I read somewhere there are 168 hours in a week. I hope everyone takes a couple of them to do something they like doing.
