SMALLER STORES ARE IN, MORE FOCUS IN THIS AREA by RETAILERS. Bill Stankiewicz, www.savannahsupplychain.com

Evolving consumer preferences will push even more “big box” retailers to focus their attentions on smaller-format stores.

When it comes to store size, less will be more in 2017. We’ve already seen a shift here, with retail giants such as Target, Best Buy, and Ikea investing in smaller-format stores to accommodate consumer desire for more curated selections.

To further understand why shoppers seem to be moving away from larger stores, we need to look at another big trend in the retail industry: the importance of convenience and accessibility. When people can shop online and have items delivered to their homes in a matter of hours, it takes the promise of a quick, easy experience to entice them to make the trip to an actual physical location.

Consumers don’t want to waste precious time wandering around the endless aisles of enormous stores anymore. Instead, they want ease and efficiency in the form of smaller stores with specialized selections.

There are other benefits to smaller stores as well. They cost less money to open and operate, and they take up less space in urban environments, allowing retailers to capitalize on the potential of large population centers.  I have seen new growth in this area in many cities in USA.

For you its the convenience , since online shopping is so easy. Here in India , unmanaged urbanisation makes it hard to open huge stores with convenient access without traffic jams. Big stores were not doing well until people were forced into digital payments here..again the smaller formats of bug guys are doing well...what I fail to understand is this - why forcefit the large format stores in Asia.
