Moving beyond the pain
Moving beyond the pain
Life is full of opportunities to be hurt. The physical pain of a broken arm or the emotional pains of a broken heart are common afflictions we face on a regular basis. Now we know the pain of a broken arm passes as the arm heals while the pain of emotions can linger long past what would seem a normal healing timeline.
The advice of just move on generally falls on deaf ears, simply because while it might be stated in compassion and a genuine desire for their well being, it comes across as crass and uncaring. Moving beyond emotional pain is not just a matter of time but also the desire to move on. In many cases there is also a secondary reason such as forgiveness that hold on to the pain. Moving beyond emotional pain begins with a willingness to move on and can take more than just one step.
The proverb time heals all wounds is not always true some wounds do not heal with time, yes it might dim the pain or blur the memory but the wound is still there. In the case of a broken heart or a betrayed one forgiving the offender is a very large step in the process of moving on. Letting the hatred go is not about them it is all about you. As long as you hold onto that hatred and pain they hold you in their control and are able to continue to cause you pain even when they have no memory of the event. Forgiveness is about letting you out of prison and letting you heal. Moving beyond the pain is a choice, true it is one that can be very difficult but it is still begins with your choice.
Emotional healing takes time and the desire to heal. It takes the willingness to face the issues and honestly evaluate the situation. The loss of a loved one is huge but you still need to process the emotions you are having instead of ignoring them. Feel each one and recognize its validity then let it go.
Easier said than done, absolutely, but it can still be done. It is up to you to choose when it is time to move beyond the pain.
Blessings
