Increase your productivity; choose to smile

We all know that our attitude drastically impacts our productivity. When we have an upbeat attitude we produce more with less effort and much less stress. We understand that when we let our attitudes drop into frustration or anxiety the opposite is true, our productivity drops and our stress increases.

From my experience most workplaces have a steady atmosphere of activity with an undertone of status quo. They are neither upbeat nor anxious. This level of general mediocrity is easily tipped into anxiety but can be hard to force into an upbeat or at best celebratory atmosphere.

Why? Are our lives so filled with frustration and stress that the best we can accomplish is dullness? Are we content with an atmosphere that is not depressing? I do know a few people who honestly look forward to going to work. Yes they might dread the drive but their attitude is genuinely upbeat about work. Why? They like their work. They like what they do.

So what is wrong with the rest of us? Do we hate our work? Do we get easily frustrated by our coworkers? Or is it we expect to be frustrated at work and anticipate being stressed by our situations? Having a good attitude at work does not start with our boss or the other employees, it starts with us.

We know that our attitude starts with us, but we are easily influenced by our environment. The attitudes of our friends and coworkers can quickly bring ours up or drag them down depending on their weekend or evening. The opposite can also be true. We can lift up the countenance of a friend; we can lift the spirits of a coworker who had a poor evening.

Do you want a productive day and a less stressful one? Choose your own attitude and influence your workplace. We used to call it being proactive. I just think it’s a good idea.

Blessings.
