How to know if a job offer is fake

How to know if a job offer is fake

Hello beBee!

In today's post, I am going to give you a few tips on how to detect a fake job offer.

According to the news portals like CNN , there is an increase of fraudulent job offers, a worrying phenomenon that makes it difficult for candidates, companies and job portals the mission of each party involved in the search process, to meet its objective.

At beBee we work to provide the best service to candidates. We understand the time and effort it takes to find a job offer that matches what you are looking for. That's why we want to help you identify a fraudulent job offer.

We encourage you to take a look at these small tips that will surely make your job search experience a safer one:

How to spot a fake job offer?

The first thing we recommend is that you look at a number of main points:

  • Ambiguous description of the job offer. In this type of job offers, no specific details of the position are given and the tasks are very general, even assuring that anyone can do it. Their objective is to attract the attention of a larger number of people to apply. Normally, job offers usually specify the tasks, required background and/or basic conditions...
  • An unprofessional or artificial photo. At beBee we believe that the direct connection between candidates and recruiters is important. For this reason, we require a profile picture. If the recruiter's profile picture is too informal or in an unprofessional environment it can be a warning sign. Also, photos that come from image banks or are of very poor quality may indicate that the person offering the job is not real.
  • Misspellings. Something as simple as repeated misspellings in the offer can be an indication that it is not a professional profile.
  • A very incomplete profile. As mentioned above, beBee gives you the opportunity to present your professional profile in a simple way. If you detect that a profile is not very complete, with ambiguous information or with information that seems to have been taken from other websites, it is probably a fake profile.
  • They demand money and very personal data. In no selection process should you be asked for money, very personal information or photographs. We also remind you that beBee is a free service and never demands money through third parties. We only have premium plans that are paid securely through our platform, and only if you require it.

What else can I do to detect a fake job offer?

  • Make sure you are being contacted from a corporate email. Gmail, hotmail or yahoo extensions are often used by users for personal purposes. Companies have their own email extensions that correspond to the company name. If they contact you, make sure they also have a corporate signature. E.g. companyexample@companyexample.rrhh.com don't trust people who claim to be in a human resources position and have an account like this: example@gmail.com
  • Research the company on the Internet. Look for information about the company on official sites, making sure it exists and the information corresponds to the published offer: logo, name...etc.
  • Do not give personal data for any registration or click on suspicious links. Job interviews are usually conducted with professional tools such as Zoom, Google Meetings or Microsoft Teams. In all of them, security is guaranteed. Any other type of contact, including phones with paid extensions, are suspicious of scams.
