JERRY A. GUZZETTA

In the book I Walked with Heroes the author Jerry Guzzetta writes about the realities of war that are often neglected, and the dark secrets of war that are often overshadowed by the glory of victory and triumph in them. This book comes from someone who has been a witness of these incidents, and pays a tribute to all the soldiers who’ve laid their lives for the sake of the freedom of their country.

This certain segment of the book speaks about the Montagnard, and their fighting spirit to attain complete freedom from the oppressors. The Montagnard were a people indigenous to the lands in the central parts of Vietnam where they were spread across different provinces. The author interacted with them during the Vietnam War when they were siding with the U.S military in their fight against the North Vietnamese Armed Forces. (NVAF)

Concerning Montagnard

Montagnard were a group of people who were true to their roots, they stuck to their beliefs in an era where globalization and modernity was rampant. The author spoke of the different beliefs, rituals, and habits this group had with them which made them visibly different to the rest of the people. The author Jerry Guzzetta not only connected with them for their cause to attain sovereignty over their region, but also ensured that he is helping them in the best way possible. Guzzetta, the author, was concerned about the treatment the Montagnard would receive once the U.S army is withdrawn from the region.

Rituals and Beliefs of Montagnard

The story establishes the fact that the Montagnard were true to their rituals and roots as explained by the author. The author describes every bit of the detail he saw on the battlefield about this group of people. Guzzetta writes about their bravery, and a fighting spirit that came with another bizarre habit. They were valiant fighters, and had a great spirit to protect each other even in the harsh circumstances of war, but had a peculiar habit of fleeing the scene that too in big numbers.

The people also had numerous superstitions which made their way of life look even more unusual to the author. They had inherited these superstitions from their elders, the author Guzzetta observed the rituals and superstitions they had and wrote them to portray the Montagnard. The author writes about the time when a person who was close to him died during the war, and the Montagnard left his body unattended in open air due to a belief, which was to not to perform the last riots of someone who died outside the territory. The author recounts other incidents and habits the people had, making this story more eye-catching, and gripping to a reader.

The book I Walked with Heroes presents us a picture of war that is hidden. The author Jerry Guzzetta wrote the book with the aim of bringing the inspiring stories of American heroes back to life, as he believes that the actual meaning of war should be taught to the world, and stories should be told as the heroes and legends of these wars are about to fade with time, and their deaths.
