FB is Cleaning House - Dead Group Sweep

FB IS ON A ROLL-- and is cleaning (groups) house, baby!

For all my FB Group Owners past, present and future...

🔹 ️Short version of this heads up:

FB is cleaning house and archiving fb groups that are not active.

◾️ From an IT admin perspective ◾️

From back when I was dominating the server room, I get it, I agree with it and it makes sense--If it isnt worth backing up and saving, get rid of it....forgotten and dead files take up space on servers, costs money, time and people to monitor it.

I used to love saying: "Buh-Bye Files!" as I hit the delete button! >> evil laugh <<

🔸 Long version (because I like to explain things)

If you are or were at any time an admin or group owner listen up:

If you own a fb group or two or three or 100...

Are you active in it or ---ermmm...you just now remembered you have a few you forgot about?

How long has it been since you were last active in any of the groups you admin/own?

◾️ In a nutshell ◾️

Any groups that have no activity by the group owner or admins will be delete/archived by FB.

I do believe, for now, groups that have been archived by the owner are safe from what I am calling

"dead group sweep". (ooooh, soooo Halloween-eeee)

(dont quote me on that assumption, Im not completely sure--I guess we will find out soon enough)

During the sweep, FB is going to be checking out dead/minimal activity groups and archiving them if no one wants to take them up on the offer to take over the keys.

I do not know their 'exact' criteria is at the moment (things change all the time) -- or the time frame they are going to target (ie: age of group and/or last time there was any admin activity) nor am I sure if they will at least reach out to the owner of the group to warn them first so you may want to take a look at your virtual closet and see what you want to keep or get rid of.

Juuuuust in case there is possibly someone interested in re-animating the group, FB will offer the Admin crown to certain members. (Im also going to guess it will be the most recently dated active members ). The invite will offer the member the option to become the admin of the group, learn more or to pass on the offer.

I got an offer actually the other day (see posted image) -- I passed on it. Didnt feel right to take something that wasnt mine to begin with, but that is me. 🙂

As "I" understand it, the official process will be as follows:

Groups that have been without an admin (and I presume also no activity) for some time will be archived. FB will step in and offer an invite to become Admin to members who may be interested. If no one accepts from there, the group will get archived.

◾️ So, what can you do or should you do?

(no wrong answer here--and just a suggestion)

1. is it a group you archived already?

Leave it or consider deleting it if you have no thought to do anything with it. Why keep it?

2. is it a group you created and have intention of doing something with, but not right now? Some people create "burner" groups they use for challenges and recycle the group. If the later is the case, keep it.

Consider archiving it or deleting it and creating a group later when you have time and a strategy in place (see me about that when you are ready to create your group)

3. You totally forgot about a group you created, dont have time for it, there arent any members or files hanging around?

Delete it or let FB handle the process for you --it's like keeping a glob of gum on your headboard for 10 years... 🥺 get rid of it.

I could give a few more scenarios, but you get the idea...
