Content creation is important for lawyers because it helps create awareness about their services among potential clients. Providing valuable content can drive potential clients to a law firm's website and increase the number of consumers who contact the law firm. The growing competition among lawyers has made them opt for legal marketing services from an experienced company to create content for their website.

Here are some effective tips for lawyers looking to create valuable content:

  • Understand your primary audience: Any attorney who is serious about content marketing should have a well-defined plan for generating leads and referrals. You should have a clear understanding of the audience whom you are trying to reach. This will enable you to create not only great content but also a successful marketing campaign.
  • Categorize your content: If you are targeting your legal blog and content at a specific type of client or referral source, then make a list of the topic categories that the client or referral source is interested in. Family law content may include topics such as child custody, adoption, child support etc. List the main topics you plan to address under this subject area. The goal here is to list how you plan to organize and present your content topics so that your content receives traffic.
  • Write for your audience and not for legal professionals: Content comes in many different forms, but all good content is written for a reason. Make sure to write for your audience. Writing content for clients is different from writing for legal professionals. So, use simple language and avoid using legal jargon. Keep it simple and the paragraphs should be short and easy to read.
  • Post content to drive traffic: One of the best ways to ensure that your content is search engine-friendly is to keep it short and simple. Keeping your content as easy to digest as possible will help rank your pages higher in search engine results. Having shorter pages means they are quicker to load on a user’s browser, which is important to retain visitors on your site. Also, ensure that your content is informative and can generate leads. If your content is able to address a question, then there is a higher chance for driving valuable traffic.
  • Evaluate each potential topic on lead value: Before writing content, evaluate the topic very well and determine whether your content will be able to drive traffic. Consider focusing more of your content creation efforts on attracting prospective clients rather than publishing any and everything.
  • Include relevant keywords: Keywords are an excellent way to validate that your audience is looking for this type of content. Topics on the other hand, usually focus on a topical, higher level, umbrella keyword or even groups of keywords. By identifying a single keyword to target, you can branch out from there and write about different topics related to the same keywords but still end up with multiple pieces of content that are highly focused on the same topic.
  • Promote your content: Once your content is ready, the next step is to publish it to get more traffic and maximum ROI. You can either post it on social media or in newsletters. There are many websites that provide an opportunity to promote your content. This will build your brand’s reputation and also help with ranking.
  • Measure traffic: Every piece of content that you publish is not going to be successful all of a sudden. It can take about 6 months or more to achieve approximately 90% of the maximum traffic it is destined to attract. So, create a spreadsheet to track publication dates as well as import traffic data from your website analytics. This lets you observe the patterns and trends that separate the winning content.

To attract potential clients, lawyer websites must be able to rank high in search engine results, but due to their busy schedules, attorneys may not find time to create quality content on their own. They can outsource the content writing requirements to providers of legal firm marketing solutions and benefit from high quality articles, blogs and other forms of content that will get them noticed online and also help to generate leads.
