Do you value the lights that illuminate your life?

Do you value the lights that illuminate your life?

Watching the sun set over the ocean is a beautiful sight. The light slowly dims as the colors shift from amazing blue to the black of night. Then as you stand there after this beautiful scene you realize that now you are cold and have a long drive ahead of you in the dark.

The problem with sunsets and moments of rare beauty is they are fleeting followed by the normal everyday realities. Now in truth that is part of what make these rare moments special, moments to remember and to share with a friend. But they are not life.

Life is the everyday grind, getting up in the morning and trundling off to work. Life is the after work run to the store to pick up what you need to fill your cupboards and pantry. Life is the collection of everyday events that test you patience and develops your humor. Moments like the beautiful sunset or a star filled sky are like seasonings on your food, they are meant to add flavor to the meal.

So by all means take the special moments and savor them but never let them replace the everyday. Look forward the everyday enjoy the daily moments that make up your life and let them fill you with peace. Yes fixing the car or repairing the cupboard can seem frustrating and a waste of time but these moments are the moments that actually reveal and to a degree make you who you are. The moments of daily activity that cause you to shift out of your daily activities in order to accomplish something may not be the spice of life but are actually the moments that illuminate your life.

Enjoy your sunsets and walks on the beach but let the interruptions cast their own light into your life and let them show you who you have become. These moments are actually more valuable than the slowly dimming light of the sun, though not usually as fun.

Blessings
