Clowns just might be the root cause of Climate Change, Global Warming and a litany of other environmental issues and challenges.

I read a short article on “Fukushima Radiation Has Contaminated The Entire Pacific Ocean (And It’s Going To Get Worse).” You know that manmade facility in Japan that was influenced by two natural events called an earthquake and tsunami. The full story can be found at: http://peakoil.com/enviroment/fukushima-radiation-has-contaminated-the-entire-pacific-ocean-and-its-going-to-get-worse I am not going to interpret, champion or regurgitate any of the information in that piece, rather will leave it up to you all do decide whether or not you want to gain some insight into what is or isn't occurring.

332d62c0.jpg

What I will do is share the picture related to the story. It is attributed to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and serves as a graphic depiction of what may or just may not be going on in the Pacific realm as a result of an event that occurred in 2011.

So here is my point. Similar to climate change, global warming, food, energy, water, population etc…I find it interesting that none of this seemingly makes its way into the discussion space. Scant or limited discussion on it in the news, little to no discussion on it in the political scenes at any national or international level, and marginal discussion or outcry in the scientific domains.

This specific issue gets to a fundamental and dangerous dilemma of cause and effect. It gets to a fundamental issue about the absurdity of polarized views on any of the subjects. Whether manmade or natural our approach to the current state and myriad of issues and challenges we face and our response to any and all of it is, well, truly absurd.  It gets to a point about humanity and our interaction with our earths ecosystem and the fact that we just may have found the culprit to it all.

Mankind has, in some respects, turned clown like and since they aren't real, lets blame a clown.

Unfortunately we, yes human kind in general, have donned our clown suits and continue to behave and interact with our Earth like theatrical sycophants and court jesters. As clowns we seem content in thinking that our actions don’t matter and how we can, in behaving theatrically, seek to flatter or gain approval whilst ignoring reality despite the ramifications.

We seem to be content in putting on our face paint and perpetually masking a reality unfolding before us because our actions really don’t matter.  Earth and nature did this, not mankind.

In putting on our clown faces I wonder if it somehow makes us feel better about contributing to or passively watching us destroy our earth, its environment and our ability to exist.

So for all of the clowns who continue to perpetuate the mindless and mind-numbing eloquence on manmade or natural. All I can say is--Well done.

Maybe, it is more about our search for enlightenment and grasping coexistence for the betterment of all through a compassion for One Earth. As David Brower opined in "Let the Mountains Talk, Let the Rivers Run" maybe we need to re-look and/or look differently at conservation, preservation and restoration. Perpetuating the clown like approach, although on the surface it may be humorous, in reality the comedy unfolding isn't working despite all the international proclamations, back slapping and clown like buffoonery.

Thank you all. Sharing a response I provided to a comment on the ying and yang article from someone on the other social media site. "... I do not disagree that this is a tough nut to crack. I kind of look at some of this in the perspective of duality. On the one hand, at a macro level we live on what has been referred to as the "Blue" Planet. If I look at it from space, I would simply opine that it is specifically unique amongst all the other known things in our universe. In that context, it and it alone does what it does like no other. On the other hand, at the micro level there are a myriad of minuscule little things that exists in their own little domains and niche areas. They do what they do regardless of whether they are natural or manmade. My point is less about globalization, although in some respects that needs to remain a perspective. Rather I just think we need to think and act differently--at whatever scale, whatever level about the fact that our 'One Earth" is truly is the only little one we have. That "One Earth" however large or small it may be may just be an important thing, whether we approach it individually or collectively. After 120 years of recent history, discussion and debate I am more concerned about our ability to perfect the mindless perpetuation of plausible deniability. An ability that seems content on perfecting the art of ignoring our individual actions because we can only influence what we can influence and control at our level(s). I just don't think that that is proving to be an effective or beneficial approach. Somehow, someway, someday we may just have to figure this out, as the Black Swans of our future are out there. How and/or if we can navigate them will yet be seen. I just think we can do better--individually and collectively..."

Thanks and much appreciated. Must be a clown like conspiracy where on every issue, every topic, every opinion we find ourselves confronted with absolute bonafide and irrefutable fact of events occurring; disinformation; conspiracy theories, misinformation and absolute bonafide and irrefutable facts of nothing happening. My point was not on the story, nor the picture for that matter--but they may just serve the subject of the article well, then again may have been a distraction. My point was actually on the circus/carnival that we all seem content in dressing up for and playing at. Somewhere, somehow we need to get past the polarized extremes on every side of the issue and find some middle ground regardless of whether something is man made or natural.

Thanks Phillip Hubbell and thanks for the connection. Agreed, and in discussing and disagreeing the real issue becomes one of allowing for dialogue while concurrently driving towards ultimate solutions not polarized stalemate. Not a lecture, but in the ONE EARTH piece, I merely opine that after 120 years of debate on the topic, might we be able to figure this thing out at any level?

I am all for simplifying motives Joel. If we can influence others to have genuine conversations about important topics then we can certainly go to bed satisfied at night, whether or not we are in Marrakech.

Kevin, A challenge for me in writing and please understand that this is not a plea or attempt and expanding my reach or readership. I don't have a huge followership, here or elsewhere. I write because I have a passion for this and any number of other topics of interest. I am not a PhD. I am not a scientist. I am just one person who writes because I feel compelled to do so, regardless of reach. I do not write to submit to blind, double blind or triple blind reviews to and for prestigious journals and to bolster my resume/vita. I just don't have that kind of mojo. Now, if we as simpletons, could only influence the brilliant minds in Marraakech to get beyond the logjam of rhetoric and back slapping, we might be getting somewhere. Despite the unlikelihood of that I will say this though, it is in writing and getting responses and thoughtful dialogue from all of those like you on this site, simple folks from around the world that share an affinity towards any given subject, it is satisfying none-the-less. So with that, all I will say is Thank You. Keep making a difference, one step-one issue-one challenge at a time.

You are indeed a deep reader my friend. The only ironic thing about that post is that I dedicated the vegemite to a great bee Ken Boddie, and he had the nerve to be gallivanting around the world and likely didn't even read that post.

Thanks Kevin Pashuk, I agree the challenge in diving into a deep “Vegemite” conversation is daunting. :)

I found your post interesting Joel... but I'm more and more convinced that if you want a deep conversation on important issues, then social media may not be the best forum. We get glimpses of it here on beBee, but even here we get people who comment before reading the whole article. I ran a bit of an experiment in my post https://www.bebee.com/producer/@kevin-pashuk/why-are-we-self-lobotomizing-you-won-t-believe-what-i-found-out...
