Christians and politicians; putting out the fire

Here is a question I have been attempting to answer for a while and it seems to be misunderstood. The question surrounds the idea of Christians and politics. Should a Christian be a politician? Short answer, sure if God tells you to.
But the real issue is not your political views it is your character and love for others. All Christians are called to reflect the love and character of God. We are called to be salt and light. This supersedes any job we might have. If you are a politician or a teacher or a janitor our agenda is to live out love.
Please let me try to explain a little more. A political position should be a reflection of a person’s character, love and understanding of the issues. This does not mean if I disagree with their political position I should rebuke them, scripture does not give me that right. If we see a fellow Christian error in character or love we are told to carefully show it to them in love. Our task is to help each other grow in love, to help each other grow in our understanding of God and His ways.
Just because someone disagrees with me in a political view does not mean they are in error in character or love, it simply means they see the issues from a different position and desire to solve them from a different direction. Love your brother or sister first, have issues with their politics a vast second.
If you claim to be a Christian you should be willing and able to have a polite and honest conversation without the need to condemn or belittle. You might not agree with their solution but you can agree with their heart, start there. A house divided cannot stand. Adding to the division of America is not in our best interest. And a divided Christian church shows very little that is attractive to the lost.
For those who were asking, I hope that is clearer.
Blessings

Harvey I believe you are correct that any Christian that fail to understand the war he or she enters when discussing or becoming a politician is in for a very nasty surprise. Blessings
