Can You find a way to the Top of the Mountain?

I want to share a quote I heard today. "Nothing is more dangerous than an idea when it's the only one you have." by Emile-Auguste Chartier. 

What this statement means is that when a person has only one idea this person is at risk of just seeing things in that one way. This person could becoming obsessed with that one idea and not seeing a world of opportunities that are available. It is great to have a focus or a goal in life, but having only ONE can be dangerous. Not only because of the risk of obsession but also because if that one idea does not become a reality, the person may end up with nothing at all.

We need to have a career goal, a personal goal, and a community goal. Then, for each of these goals, we need more than one idea on how to achieve it. We need to be flexible with our goals and ideas so we don’t get stuck at a dead-end trying to make an idea that will never let success happen.

I think that the more ideas you have, the more you get it. It is almost like pedaling a bike, when going from a standstill (no ideas), then the first pedaling (first idea), we are put into motion. It soon becomes easier to pedal, and as you gain speed it becomes more difficult to stop than to keep on going. We all ride our bicycles at our own speed, the important thing is to keep on riding and gaining speed.

I show you this picture and ask you "Find your way to the Top of the Mountain?" What was you answer?

Question 2, "Find a way to the Top of the Mountain without using the Path?"

This was an exercise I did with some leaders at a conference once. The speaker drew the mountain on the whiteboard and drew the path. He then asked these questions. If you were like me, you answered the first question simply, "Follow the Path." Your answer to the second question was probably by drawing a different route up one of the slopes of the mountain.

After everyone in the room put drew their answer on the board, the speaker at this conference went up and showed his answer to this question. He drew a picture of a helicopter. Everyone started to laugh. But, we all began to realize that we had only one idea. When all believe that we had to walk up this mountain.

He again asked, "Find a way to the Top of the Mountain without using the Path?"

This time, having fun, we started drawing different pictures. There were planes, hot air balloons, sky divers, and the funniest was a sick man in a "ANGRY BIRD SLINGSHOT". He said the hardest part in any business is to get from the mindset walking only on the path to "YES, there is another way." Once, you realize that you can get in a "Hot Air Balloon", all the question is "How do I get a Hot air balloon?"
