Being prepared: it's all about making a difference

Are you prepared, is a question most of us have heard multiple times. This question is offered in hopes that you are, usually because if you are not you do not have time to become prepared. We try to make sure we are ready both mentally and physically. We gather the proper papers and resources, we ensure we are equipped with the tools we will need then we ensure we are mentally “on our game”. We are prepared.

Being prepared mentally is more about knowing what we will do in the situation going over it in our minds and picturing possibilities. This style of preparing permits us to act in accordance to our plan instead of reacting to outer stimulus that might distract us from our desired goal.

This type of preparation in the physical realm is called muscle memory; the establishing a set of actions that are repeatable without thought in the event of stress or a jump in adrenalin. In the mental realm this type of preparation is also needed for the same reasons. Are the questions different from what you expected, is the person asking the questions someone you were not expecting or antagonistic? A vast multitude of realties exist that make being mentally prepared essential.

Let’s say you want to be ready to help someone if they fall, perhaps down the stairs. Have you run a possible scenario of what you could do? Have you imagined the fall and your response? Just knowing how to treat a wound or a broken bone might not be enough if you fail to react to the fall itself.

You might despise the outward expression of hate, most of us do, but we might fail to respond simply do to a lack of being prepared. We do not know the facts and details needed nor have we thought through a scenario of how we might respond.

The world is spinning and we are currently living on it, it will not stop just to let us gather our thoughts, it will not slow to give us more time. So, prepare. Be ready. Do your best to be the person you want to be. Stand straight, hold your head up and do your best to be prepared.

Blessings
