Backyard Birds

Although we live in the suburbs, we are treated to a year round display of colorful friends who share our home.  Our backyard ends in woods that surround a creek, a perfect location for birdwatching.  Here are photos of a few our friends.

A male cardinal hopping through the grass.

Cardinals pair up for life.  The female cardinal is less brilliantly colored, but is still quite beautiful.  We have three couples of cardinals who share our home.

A downy woodpecker searches a small bald cypress tree for bugs.

be43897d.jpgAnother woodpecker shares a seed block with a Carolina chickadee.  Chickadees are particularly entertaining.  When I get too close to the feeder for their comfort, they will chirp and scold incessantly until I give them room.

The indigo bunting is one our favorites.
