An Incorporated World is in the Offing (y en español)

I’ve tried to ignore what I’ve considered to be an evolutionary backslide for quite a while. I hunker down in my dream and hope events will bypass me, but I know in my heart they won’t.

I’m embarking on a journey of relying on a system that might not be in place for much longer. I’m going from feeling fiercely independent to dependency. I will be applying for the dreaded Medicaid soon. I see that going the way of the dinosaurs if the new ACA gets passed.

INCORPORATEDScyFy channel recently promoted a series by the name of Incorporated. It is the world where Governments no longer exist, and Corporations run the world. In it, people no longer scream for living wages; they scream for survival. The have-nots are grateful for jobs cleaning the Haves’ houses and toilets. The have-nots become the discarded. The Haves desperately hold on to Corporate jobs, undergoing loyalty tests, and screenings to ensure they do not leave their corporate buildings with trade secrets. The punishment for transgressions is exile to the Red Zone, where people struggle to eek out survival.

Pretty women from the Red Zone are enticed into a world of prostitution for denizens of the Green Zone. They are meat on a slab.  They gratefully lie own and use their bodies as currency and as a way to save loved ones.

Incorporated is not as far-fetched as it seems. We recently escaped the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), where what was supposed to be a trade partnership evolved into corporate giveaways to the tune of 87%. Such an agreement fulminated a bypass of our courts, creating tribunals staffed by corporate loyalists to decide disagreements. It was negotiated in secret for six years by the US Government. Canada passed its own secret deal called CETA, capturing all of Europe. The TPP captured much of the rest of the world.

If I recall correctly, my reading of the TPP set criteria for pricing strategies that would be endured by those of us currently living in the not-so-imaginary Red Zone. Say, Colorado passed a law against fracking; corporations could take their case to the tribunals, suing the State for lost profits, and probably winning.  People be damned.

Consolidation of wealth is inevitable now.  Five men now own half of the world.  It's as if the top is sucking from the bottom.  As we grovel along creating wealth for those too greedy to share it, we peter out and die from exhaustion and disease.


TPP is gone for the US now, but other countries signed on to it. It would be ludicrous to think corporations will give up their quest for total control of our lives—and deaths.

Digamos, Colorado aprobó una ley contra fracking; Las corporaciones podrían llevar su caso ante los tribunales, demandando al Estado por lucro cesante y probablemente ganando. La gente sea condenada.

In India one solution used by then Prime Minister Indra Gandhi was enforced sterilization and in China at that time was the One Child per Family rule, both were draconian measures. In recent times there was a natural population reduction in the Indian State of Kerala. It was natural because the measure that caused this phenomena was one focus "educating girls". The educated girls of Kerala naturally chose to have less children and the education policy led to changes in certain beliefs also. Now that does not mean all outcomes were good because an educated population in Kerala did not have access to appropriate jobs, so fathers traveled to the middle-east to earn money they could send back to their families - but this unnatural form led to a greater number of suicides http://maithrikochin.org/suicides_in_kerala.htm This does not mean Kerala should stop educating girls, but it highlights that what we think an outcome may be is not always predictable as a social policy - but emerge depending on context. This is the value of contextual intelligence and it is context specific. We should applaud what works in this world but also realize that what we think is good policy must emerge in practice. Our approach policy making and strategy is what is still medieval - but there are new ways emerging as old ways go. Ironically it is in the passing of people with certain views replaced by people with a new view that often effects greater change. The old worldview simply dies out and is replaced by a new view. The difference is that this process can be more visible now.

During the Black Death of medieval times, much of the workforce was killed off by the disease. The Bourgeoisie class emerged as a result. Once the workforce is depleted, attitudes will change. Women in Italy and Spain are declining to have children because the welfare of those unborn children is a concern. https://www.bebee.com/producer/@joyce-bowen/women-are-declining-to-breed. Had I known feeding my children was to be such a struggle, I certainly would have declined to breed. Society is getting slower in its thinking, and women are picking up the pace.

It does depend on what is being incorporated. If our lives are being incorporated then that is a terrible thing because directorship will then become the new form of dictatorship. If people are incorporating a system that adds value to human existence and human value creation then that is incorporating a 21st Century form of thinking. The problem is of the former is most acute in the United States which has led to a series of Presidents who have done the bidding of dominant special interest who will think nothing of calamity or war or death if it serves their special interest. The US needs to self-correct otherwise the incorporation will fit the world George Orwell warned about and that is the dystopia featured in the series Incorporated. Instead of heading towards utopian incorporation the United States has for a long time set the general direction towards dystopian incorporation. In the 1960's the activism model for it was a fight against the power - whereas the reality is that no matter what power one defeats a new form of power initially emerges with good intention but quickly morphs into unintended consequences. A 21st Century existence must be one that provides wholly new way of thinking which is adaptive and emergent, such thinking often follows the mindset of the Power of AND. It is time to get people out of silos and special interest and learn to work horizontally because in the world of corporations there are still like-minded leaders to connect with.

"but the rules we installed in the game, at the beginning, have proven to have dire unintended consequences." I say the rules have been bastardized to serve the corporations. We are headed for a fall, and the distance is deadly.
