All you need is Vision

My wife and I were having the toughest time potty training our son.  Then we realized that he had no goal to reach or nothing to accomplish in sight.  He is now three years old and we got him his first bicycle.  The bike was his goal.  No, don't worry, he had to put work into it, to achieve it.

So we sat down with him and made a plan.  I made a poster and took a picture of the bike. I then taped the picture on the top on the poster.  Each time he used the potty correctly, he was allowed to put a sticker on the poster.  When the stickers reach the bike, he gets his reward.  It would take at least 150 stickers.  My goal was to create habit and to my son see that he could work toward a goal and watch his progress.

I was told that it takes 21 days to form a habit. So, by the time he gets his bike, he will have this habit down.  Now, I also put these pictures of his bike around the house to remind him of his goal and what he was working for.  So, there was one in the kitchen,  one in his room by his bed, and the other is right in front of his face in the bathroom. But, until my son had a goal to achieve, he was unwilling to put his side of the effort in.
