A Busy Week

A Busy Week

The weekend is over and I have to turn in more paperwork at the college. Well, I don’t have to, just if I want financial aid. It’s in my nature to keep moving and stay busy. Maybe it was working all those double shifts on fishing boats and warehouses.

I woke up at 3a.m. today and just laid there in bed until my alarm went off at 5a.m. That’s the closest thing I can think of that meditating is like. Laying there and letting my mind wander until it’s almost a decent time to be up and walking around.

(COILLEGS

When I went to the college to drop off my paperwork I also took a walk around the campus and found what rooms my classes are going to be in. Afterwards I went to look for a business that had an event at the Work Source my class was at. When I got there they didn’t have any jobs I could do with a hurt back.

They were polite and told me I might find better luck at a temp-service. I thanked them and left. The lady who’s my contact for the work re-entry program called when I got back into town and made an appointment to meet me.

Comic-con was in town at the end of last month. That’s a four day event where people dress up like comic book heros and villains. They also dress up like cartoon characters. There were people dressed up like people in the Star Wars movies and the Minion this year.

Some people really put their time and energy into the character they were playing. They put in so much effort you might almost think they walked off a Hollywood acting set. For a few days fictional characters came to life. I used to collect comic books and now I paint and draw. This is a different kind of hobby to me-

But you’ve got to have fun!

Stockton, California
Students were arrested
during walkouts for
gun violence protests on
charges of battery on an
officer, vandalizing vehicles
& taking an officer's baton.

Carry on kiddos:
You're just proving our point
that it's not a gun problem.

It's a moral problem.
Thanks for helping!

I’ve been getting everything squared away to go to college the spring semester. There’s lots of paperwork to fill out and check up on after it is turned in. I’m doing a lot of leg-work instead of heavy lifting. There’s a song that says “If you never slow down you never grow old. It seems more like sink or swim to me. I’m going for the swim option.

For all you sports fans, March Madness started the beginning of the month. I never really got into sports. When I was a kid my friends were trying out for little league baseball and I went with them.

The coach kept getting angry and was yelling, “Chase the Ball!” I didn’t see what the big deal was so I replied, “I don’t chase the ball, my dog likes chasing the ball.” He asked me who my father was and called him to come get me. When my dad was driving me home he asked me if I really told the little league coach my dog likes to chase the ball.

I thought I was in trouble and said, “Yes sir.” He just started laughing.

Sometimes I think the paperwork involved in going to college is crazy. It seems like going through the process of enrolling in classes is like learning a system. It would have been easier for me if I hadn’t got hurt and was still doing labor jobs and pulling double-shifts-but life isn’t always easy.

Oh well, I’ll just keep moving. It’ what I do.

Daylight savings time is here. It was time to turn the clocks ahead-spring forward. There was a new guy at the chess tables at West Lake Park last week. He was playing a game with one of the old guys. H’s young and takes the game too seriously. The old guys all play a friendly game.

I almost told him if he lasts more than ten moves with them he’s considered good at the game. I decided not to. If he sticks around, he’ll figure that out himself.

There’s a big nationwide walk-out school students are planning today. There is also going to be a meeting at a town hall here in Seattle. The state governor is going to be there. It’s all about more gun-control laws.

It’s sad that kids are getting shot at their schools, but there’s a point lot of people are missing:

Criminals and nut-jobs don’t obey the law! If you make it harder for them, they’ll just go so far underground you won’t be able to track them. Someone already tried to do the same thing with alcohol in the 1930’s and that didn’t work out very well.

I’m not saying people are wrong about wanting kids to be safe at their schools or it’s wrong for them to stage this mass walk-out or that criminals and mentally unstable people should have guns. I’m glad something is happening about this issue.

What I am saying is that those guys aren’t idiots. They’re just as smart as you. It you make it hard for them they’ll find a way to get around the system.

Like rats in a maze.

Stick with it Mark. I enjoy your rambling reports and observations on the ridiculous things we humans get up to.
