5 Things to Know When Planning a Disney Vacation - Anthony Karabon

Disney World has been one of the go-to tourist destinations in the United States since it first opened. It can also be a little overwhelming for first-time visitors, especially since it seems to grow larger and get busier every year. Whether you’ve never been to Disney World before or you’re planning to return after several years, here are just five things to remember when you’re planning your Disney vacation.

Download the My Disney Experience Mobile App

There’s a lot to see in Disney World, so you might miss something really special if you don’t know to look for it. If you want to stay abreast of everything that the park offers, download the My Disney Experience app for your smartphone. The app can provide GPS-based directions to just about everything in the park, and it can tell you how long you can expect to wait in line for some of the more popular attractions.

Arrive Early

One of the keys to enjoying a Disney World vacation is arriving as early as you can at the park. Most Disney parks open at 9:00 AM, but you should get there before that if you can. It will be easier to find a place to park if you drive, the crowds will be a lot smaller, and it will most likely be much cooler.

Know-How to Use your FastPass+

The FastPass+ allows you to book any ride or attraction in advance, so you don’t have to wait in line. It also has limited uses, so you need to know how to book attractions wisely. If you show up early in the day and the park isn’t very crowded, you probably won’t need to use it. Save it for later in the day when you would otherwise need to stand in long lines to go on your favorite rides.

Plan Around Extra Magic Hours

There are days when Disney World has longer hours slightly for those staying at Disney resorts. These are called Extra Magic Hours, and they can be perfect if you want to see the park without dealing with large crowds. Plan your Disney vacation around these Extra Magic Hours for a more enjoyable stay.

Relax

As fun as Disney World can be, trying to see everything is exhausting. Unless you’re staying for longer than a week, you probably won’t see everything during your trip. Don’t worry about that. You’re supposed to enjoy your Disney vacation. See what you want to see, and if things get too overwhelming or exhausting, head back to your hotel to rest. You can always come back later.

*Please keep in mind that some of these opportunities are currently unavailable as Disney continues to reopen to full capacity now that COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted in Orlando, Florida*
