4 GREAT BOOKS FOR HELICOPTER
PILOTS

wre

There are many books catered towards helicopter pilots. These books offer valuable tips for pilots to remember when they're in the air. Some of them even tell true stories of pilots who became heroes. Many of these books were created in hopes of inspiring pilots as well as teaching them lessons. Here are some of the best books for helicopter pilots to read.

Flying the Lifeline: Volume 2 Scene Call

This book tells the tale of Paul Stone, a former helicopter pilot for the Marines. Stone wanted to turn to a new chapter in his life, so he began working for a man named John. Stone was living a rather uneventful life in Central Texas until Arlen, his former student, appeared. Stone finds out that the new chapter in his life was actually as an air ambulance pilot.

Heart of the Storm

Published by Colonel Edward L. Fleming, this is the story of Fleming's time as a rescue pilot. Fleming details surviving helicopter training during the Vietnam era and serving in the Gulf War. He also recalls an intense mission, which led to the rescue of Dr. Jerri Nielsen, who was cancer-stricken.

19 Minutes To Live

Lew Jennings, the author of 19 Minutes To Live, served as a pilot during the Vietnam War. He details his grim experience during combat. Almost half of the helicopters used in the war were destroyed. Nearly 5,000 helicopter pilots and crew members were killed during the war. Jennings not only survived, but he also received three Distinguished Flying Crosses.

Rescue Pilot: Cheating the Sea

When it comes to the sea, Jerry Grayson knows a thing or two about getting the better of its depths. Grayson not only saved a wounded pilot who was stuck at sea, but he also rescued survivors from a sinking ship. Cheating the sea indeed.

There is never a shortage of tales from some of the bravest helicopter pilots. There will be a ton more as the years progress. Whether the goal is to teach you something valuable or to understand the history of some of the bravest heroes in the United States, books for helicopter pilots will always serve a purpose, so get to reading.
