Interesting detours in my discovery process for a new career trajectory

This is new thing for me. I don't usually write with the goal of building a new online group. But let's see what happens! I spent 10 years as a die-hard engineer/scientist with a foray into business building and administration. I thought that was what I was going to do for my career. I took an unintended turn (you could call it fortuitous!) into what you might call “partnership building” and that ended up being my job for the next decade. Near the end of that term, I was starting to get bored and wanted to learn something new. The problem is that at this stage in my career, similar positions in industry tend to be very narrowly defined. I don't have any software background, I am not a professional engineer, and I don't have 10+ years of specific industry experience (actually I probably do have it, but don't know what the specific industry term for it is!). I am more of a generalist until given the opportunity to dive into a specific domain. I bring to the table, decades (specifically two!) of experience working with a spectrum of folks, honing my BS detector, managing groups of well-intentioned but unfocused people, and persuading younger and usually over-excited engineers to take the longer and systematic approach in order to better work within the team's framework. I've found (some might say “in my wisdom”) that being able to clearly and repeatedly communicate your ideas in bite-sized chunks yields better and more consistent results and outcomes. It's simple, but effective, but also requires the perspective gained from many failures as well as successful experiences. I talked with a career coach (mostly out of curiosity) and he had me take a social assessment test (Called DISC - but there seems to be a number of them out there). The results seemed uncannily accurate and painted me as the generalist who can talk to and get along with almost anyone. I think I knew that - but it's a feature only those who have known me for awhile would attribute to me - but now it's something I can put “out there” as an official and standardized test result - I'm curious to find out if that is helpful - or not! :)  I think this first post is long enough!
