We're seeking an Information Security Officer / Business Information Security Officer (BISO) with a focus on University & Research environments.This is a highly visible strategic role where you'll serve as a trusted advisor to academic research and IT leadership bridging the gap between cybersecurity and unique needs of higher education research ecosystem.
You'll champion cybersecurity awareness guide compliance with frameworks such as NIST FERPA research data protection standards influence secure sustainable practices across faculty researchers administrative teams
Responsibilities
- Cybersecurity Awareness & Education Lead security awareness programs tailored to university research environments Conduct workshops presentations training sessions Develop educational materials FAQs guides intranet updates in partnership with Communications Promote strong security-first culture across faculty researchers staff Represent organization in internal meetings committees industry events Risk Compliance Engagement Act as primary cybersecurity liaison for academic research leadership Identify escalate domain-specific risks coordinate mitigation strategies Support compliance policies regulatory frameworks FERPA NIST CSF CIS Facilitate tabletop exercises assist departmental incident response Program Execution Reporting Manage cybersecurity awareness risk engagement initiatives Provide feedback improve security programs processes Support executive-level communications reporting Define lead security roadmaps aligned business goals Embed practical sustainable security controls daily operations Change Management Develop execute strategies increase adoption cybersecurity initiatives Conduct impact analyses stakeholder assessments Track progress adjust strategies maintain transparent communication What You'll Bring Bachelor's degree Computer Science Information Security related field Experience leading cross-functional initiatives projects Strong communication presentation relationship-building skills Influence stakeholders driving security adoption Broad cybersecurity understanding hands-on GRC program experience Preferred Qualifications Experience higher education research environments Consulting operations management background Certifications CISSP CISM PMP Work Location Schedule Hybrid role – 3 days onsite week scheduled Chicago-area locations Ramsey Oak Park Copley Why Join Us Meaningful mission supporting academic research excellence Leadership visibility strategic impact Competitive salary full benefits package Opportunity shape security-first culture complex evolving environment Ready Apply If passionate about cybersecuriys roleneducation want make measurable impact love connect Apply now message details
