    Position Summary:


    The PG - Medical Assistant Technician is specialized in work providing patient care and performing clerical duties in a physician practice setting.

    Emphasis of the work is on assisting physicians in the examination and treatment of patients and performing a variety of clerical tasks.

    Incumbents report directly to the Office Manager of the practice and is supervised by a provider when performing medical related duties.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Bring patients into the exam room and obtain basic medical information - height, weight, BP, and pulse. Review medical history, family history, surgical history, and current medications with each patient. Perform blood draws, ECGs, and other tests as needed. Obtain authorization for ancillary and/or surgical procedures. Responsible for cleaning exam rooms and maintaining them with adequate supplies. Assist patients who call the office with post-op questions or concerns.

    Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to): Taking medical histories; Preparing patients for examination; Assisting the physician during exams and certain procedures; Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens; Performing basic laboratory tests; Drawing blood; Taking electrocardiograms; May perform other advanced clinical duties under direction and supervision of a nurse or a physician, as needed based on assigned unit.

    Qualifications


    Experience:
    Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.


    Education:
    High school diploma is required.


    License Certification:


    Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants or credentialing as a Registered Medical Assistant by the American Society of Medical Technologies preferred.

    American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification with at least 6 months validity required.


    Knowledge Skill Abilities:
    Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.


    Physical Demands:
    Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers.

    Work Environment:


    Jobs in this group are required to function in a fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations.

    Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public. Function is subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures.

    Exposure to various environments such as:
    communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment. May also be exposed to needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-Ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.
