Duties
This is a supervisory Assistant Nurse Manager vacancy within the Community Living Center (CLC) to be located at the HJ Heinz campus of the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center.
The Community Living Center (CLC) at the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center provides compassionate, Veteran-centered care in a safe and homelike environment to eligible Veterans who require nursing home level care.
The goal of care is to restore function, prevent decline, maximize independence, and provide comfort during end of life care.
The goals of care are achieved in an environment where the Veteran is respected, treated with dignity, and invited to be an active participant in his/her care.
The long-term care resident neighborhoods provide 24/7 care for Veterans.The Assistant Nurse Manager in the Community Living Center is accountable for the daily operations of these direct patient care areas, ensuring that performance improvement and risk assessment activities are developed, quality measures, and ongoing assessment and improvement of all aspects of patient care delivery.
The Assistant Nurse Manager is the designated second-line supervisory authority, responsibility, and accountability for the 24/7 operations of their units, ensuring that subordinate personnel provide timely nursing care which complies with generally accepted standards of clinical practice, which includes the authority to accept, amend, or reject the work of subordinates.
The incumbent will have continuing responsibility for time scheduling of the unit, coaching of staff, addressing of employee conduct and performance issues, and completing recurring reports and performance evaluations in a timely manner.
She/he will participate on service and Medical Center committees and task forces aimed at improving nursing practice and patient care and will be expected to identify any educational needs of staff and ensures that these needs are addressed.
The incumbent will work in partnership with the local Bargaining Unit and adhere to all Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) principles, and will function under the supervision of the Community Living Center Nurse Manager who will provide the administrative supervision and general instruction, planning and assignment of work, assignment of time schedules, approval of leave requests, and completion of performance evaluations.
