    Job Summary:

    The Plumbing instructor's main focus is to teach and will update and enhance the Plumbing curriculum, develop entrance examination and classroom assignments, hands-on instruction for all classroom/shop exercises and exams.

    Essential Functions:

    · Update and enhance existing Plumbing curriculum annually consistent with the Division of Apprenticeship Standard's Minimum Industry Training Criteria the IAPMO Plumbing code, including developing exams, class assignments and hands-on trainings.

    · Create a lesson plan binder, with instructions, text and code book references and quizzes for each Apprentice grade level for years 1 -4.

    · Implement and maintain a paperless classroom whereby all instructional materials are electronic and students' interface with computers. tablets.

    · Create entrance exam, vendor demonstration and field trip itinerary.

    · Create and maintain a Journey Level Certification examination with drawings and update yearly as needed according to IAPMO Plumbing code revisions.

    · Identify and train substitute instructors.

    · Design, build and maintain training labs including any needed upgrades, equipment, and supplies.

    · Teach classes, attend local and out of town jobsite safety visits, coordinate and attend field trips, and attend trade shows and career fairs as schedule allows.

    · Design and execute the Apprenticeship Contest, including coordination of judges, scoring criteria, awards, supplies, materials and logistics.

    · Ability to work independently and as a team player, self-motivated, with strong leadership skills.

    · Ability and willingness to follow procedures; reporting and compliance processes; identify improvements and make changes.

    · Produce school reports for committee meetings.

    · Produce and maintain student grade system for each apprentice grade level/class.

    · Attend IAPMO meetings pertaining to code development as needed.

    · Produce and maintain class documentation for each apprentice grade level/class.

    · Valid CA drivers license a must.

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

    · High school diploma or GED equivalent

    · Experience with on-the-job training an apprentice, required

    · Minimum 10 years Plumbing experience including new construction in both commercial and residential applications, service and repair

    · Graduate of an apprenticeship program, state-approved preferred

    · Experience teaching; experience with apprenticeship programs a plus

    · Strong computer and organizational skills including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and AutoCAD

    · Strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills

    Strong leadership and time management skills

    Physical Demands:

    Bending, reaching, lifting various materials (up to 40 lbs.), sitting and standing for long periods of time, using office equipment and computers. Safe operation and use of standard office equipment, including sharp objects. Able to communicate by phone, e-mail and in-person to small and large groups. Accuracy and concentration are required, and sometimes with multiple distractions in the immediate area. The position requires travel with some evening and weekend work and driving a personal vehicle.
