    The Laboratory of Space Systems and Optomechanics (LASSO) at the UA Wyant College of Optical Sciences is seeking candidates for postdoctoral researcher positions with a strong graduate research background and/or prior postdoctoral experience in displacement laser interferometry, optomechanical inertial sensing, including micro-optical systems, cavity optomechanics, atom interferometry and quantum optics. The candidates will work in the LASSO group led by Prof. Guzman.

    Specific desired expertise includes, but is not limited to, laser interferometry, monolithic optomechanical sensors, integrated photonics, atom interferometric and quantum measurement systems. Individuals with interdisciplinary research background are especially encouraged to apply.

    The successful candidate must hold, by the time of employment, a degree in Engineering, Physics/Applied Physics, Optics, or a related field and must have demonstrated scientific and technical experience in some of the aforementioned areas. The candidate will work closely with a team of experimentalists and have the opportunity to advise and students, launching new programs on optomechanical and quantum inertial sensing for applications in gravitational sensing, geodesy, navigation, space and quantum technologies. We expect to hire two well qualified candidates.

    Duties & Responsibilities
  • Engage in experimental research related to advanced laser interferometers, novel optomechanical and quantum technologies, and space systems with applications in gravitational sensing and navigation, with minimal supervision.
  • Participate in scholarly discussions with colleagues on new ideas and concepts, work closely with senior scientists, graduate and undergrad students, and interdisciplinary teams, author journal papers and conference articles.
  • Present results at conferences.
  • Minimum Qualifications
