- Oversees and coordinates the Building Inspection Division's day-to-day operations including office administration, building inspections, plan review, permitting, and code enforcement.
- Leads and/or participates in the development, administration, and review of Building Inspection policies and procedures; establishes divisional goals, objectives, and priorities.
- Develops and administers the Division's budget; monitors and authorizes expenditures.
- Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; develops and delivers employee training; organizes and conducts staff meetings.
- Monitors and ensures staff compliance with divisional policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Provides technical guidance and assistance to personnel.
- Oversees and participates in the inspection of commercial and residential construction projects.
- Interprets and enforces local, State, and Federal construction regulations, codes, and ordinances.
- Responds to inquiries from contractors and the general public regarding the City's building inspection/permitting processes or other related matters.
- Facilitates the timely and effective resolution of code and/or other building inspection issues.
- Conducts building plan reviews; monitors documentation for compliance with applicable regulatory requirements; reviews, approves, and issues building permits.
- Coordinates building inspection activities with other City departments and outside agencies.
- Reviews, prepares, and maintains various types of inspection records, reports, and documentation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

- Work is performed in a standard office environment
- Subject to sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting objects up to 20 pounds.
- Exposure to computer and computer screen for up to 8 hours or more a day.
- Exposure to variable weather conditions, general construction hazards, and heavy equipment
- Regular attendance is required.
- Must have a valid Texas Driver's License
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must pass criminal history check
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license. Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months, a valid State of Texas Plumbing Inspector License.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months, an I.C.C., or other approved agency, certification in at least one inspection area
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, within one year, commercial building inspectors certification or residential building inspectors certification from I.C.C., or other approved agency.
- Reports directly to City manager
- Works closely with all city department heads, City Council, Mayor, City Manager, and the general public
