- Patrol an assigned area(s) to prevent crimes and enforce laws;
- Enforce all local, state, and federal laws in a democratic, fair, and impartial manner;
- Operate a County owned motor vehicle;
- Insurable under the County's Liability Insurance Coverage to operate a County- owned motor vehicle;
- Maintain traffic safety by directing, monitoring, and enforcing traffic regulations;
- Act as public relations officer for the County and Sheriff's Office; continually called upon to act as a mediator.
- Conduct investigations into reported unsafe and illegal activities;
- Maintain and document accurate records of performance, investigations, and activities;
- Make arrests; as necessary;
- Accurately prepare and testify in criminal and civil court proceedings;
- Participate satisfactory in FTO program, Sheriff's Office Orientation Program and other required training programs;
- Assist other City, State, and Federal agencies, Sheriff's Office Divisions, and County departments when appropriate;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to County and Sheriff's Office Policy.
- At least 21 years old
- A current certified TCOLE Peace Officer license is required to apply
- Never convicted of a Felony
- Never convicted of a Misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, or incarceration after conviction
- A valid Texas Driver's license
- TCOLE jail license (if held) must be maintained in good standing
- This position is appointed through the Sheriff's Office selection process.

OBJECTIVE:
To provide fundamental police services to Ellis County, it's residents, visitors, and property, in the most ethical, responsive, courteous, and professional manner
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
This position has constant contact with the public and provides both emergency and non-emergency police services. Duties may vary widely depending on the current area of assignment.
The Patrol Deputy is constantly called upon for decisions requiring maturity of judgment, expediency, and legality, while always striving to maintain and improve the quality of life in Ellis County.
